    MILLERSTOWN -
    Wilma Jean Swartz, 89, of Millerstown, died at home on Saturday, May 7
    , 2011. Born April 24, 1922, she was the daughter of William Henry Bit
    ting and Jennie Eva Dimm Bitting.
    After a 65 year marital union, she was preceded in death by her husban
    d, Barner Swartz in 2008.
    A lifelong resident of Millerstown, she graduated from Millerstown Hig
    h School in 1939. She attended the Dunmire School of Music in Harrisbu
    g, concentrating in piano study, during which time she began teachin
    g private lessons. She continued teaching many students for over 60 ye
    ars.
    Wilma Jean was a lifelong member of Millerstown Presbyterian Church an
    d Highland United Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday School p
    ianist, a teacher and a member of the Women's Guild, former deacon an
    d a very active member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry, having made ove
    60 shawls for others.
    In addition to knitting, Wilma Jean was a talented seamstress and mad
    e many clothes for her family.
    In 2001, she was a recipient of the Perry Valley Grange Community Cit
    izen award.
    Survivors include two daughters, Lois Yingling and her husband, Willia
    m, of Freeburg, and Linda MacAskill of Gettysburg, two grandchildren
    , Mark Yingling and his wife, Teresa, of Lancaster, and Kristen Yingli
    g and her husband, Mike Grimsley, of Leonardtown, MD, and two great g
    anddaughters, Jenna and Amanda Yingling.
    In addition to her husband, Wilma Jean was preceded in death by an inf
    ant brother, and her son-in-law, Robert A. MacAskill.
    In lieu of flowers, contributions to support local piano students ma
    y be given to the Wilma Jean Swartz Piano Study Scholarship Fund, whic
    h will be administered by the Greenwood Community Band. Checks shoul

    Services will be held on Saturday from the Highland Presbyterian Churc
    h with a funeral at 10 a.m. There is a viewing from 9 a.m. until the s
    ervice. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown.
