    John C. Barner, 82, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at his son,
    Steven’s, residence, Kinley Road. Born February 25, 1920 in
    Loganton, he was a son of Grant U. and Sadie C. Fidler Barner. He
    was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Frances G.
    Lodge, who died on March 25, 1970 and his second wife, the former
    Alta I. Confer, who died on Sept. 23, 1989.
    Mr. Barner was employed by Piper Aircraft for 36 years as a
    tool/die inspector. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served
    with the 399th Armored Field Artillery Battalion during World War
    II. He was a crew member in a medium tank in the continental U.S.,
    France, Belgium, Holland, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Austria and
    England, earning a European American Theatre Ribbon with 3 Bronze
    Stars. He fought in the infamous Battle of the Bulge.
    He was an outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fly fishing. He was a
    life member of VFW Post #1630, Lock Haven, and the International
    Assn. of Merchants #734.
    Surviving are 2 sons, Boyd G. Barner of Carlisle, and Steven W.
    Barner of Williamsport; a sister, Grace Miller, of Mill Hall; 6
    grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by 3
    brothers and 2 sisters.
    The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Eastville
    Church of the Brethren, Eastville, with Pastor Ken Geisewite,
    officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Loganton.
    Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Frederick B.
    Welker F.H., Main and Water Streets, Loganton.
