  1. 1.   Frederick RUHL was born in 1737 in Germany (son of Peter RUHL and Anna Catharina KLAPP); died in 1810 in Shrewsbury Twp, York Co, PA .

    Notes:

According to a book on PA Dutch settlers, the people from Germany had to go to Rotterdam and Amsterdam, Holland to get on a boat to come to America. When asked their language the reply was "Deutsch" meaning "German." This was confused with the word "Dutch" so the name "PA Dutch" stuck. Many of them sailed from Germany down the Rhine River, passing through many custom houses. They were often detained and the trip took several weeks. Then they were detained again in Rotterdam and Amsterdam. The boats were crowded, conditions very poor, food and water scarce on the long trip to America.

Landed in Philadelphia, PA from Rotterdam on November 19, 1771. He immigrated to New Freedom, York Co, PA.

Henry Ruhl and Michal Eirich of Frederic Ruhl, deceased, produced an account whereby there is a balance of seven hundred and eighty five dollars and eighty eight cents, which account the court does hereby confirm.
1810 York, PA Court House, Will Book # 13; page 206.

This same document lists Frederic Ruhl, his wife Catherine, their sons, daughters, and spouses.

In Carrie Elizabeth WADSWORTH's notes she has "1783 - Room 221 at Harrisburg and then the following names listed: Henry Ruhl, John Ruhl (1739 in light pencil), Frederic Ruhl (1738 in light pencil), William Ruhl.
In is not clear what the relationship of the above men was.
