    GERVAIS (MARION CO.)- Warren Bruce Barner, 91, died Wednesday in Woodb
    urn.

    He was born in Bushton, Kan., and came to Oregon when he was four year
    s
    old. He lived in Amity, graduated from Amity High School, and worked o

    a dairy farm for eight years. He was married to Bertha Brutke on Oct
    . 9,
    1937 in Vancouver, Wash., and they made their home in Gervais in 1940.
    He worked six years in grain and feed mills and 28 years for Souther
    Pacific
    Railroad as a foreman. He was a volunteer fireman for 20 years in Gerv
    ais
    and was councilman for the City of Gervais. He worked with the Boy Sco
    uts
    and as a leader for the Explorer Scouts. He was a member of and served
    as a deacon at Bible Baptist Church in Woodburn, now the Mid-Valley Co
    mmunity
    Church. He loved to hunt, fish, read and ride his bike, sometimes 15 m
    iles
    a day. He served six years in the National Guard.

    He is survived by his wife, Bertha of Woodburn; son, Carl of Salem; da
    ughters,
    Anita Blaumer of Salem, Alice Wright of Lake Oswego; sister, Genevieve
    Brutke of Amity; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

    Visiting will be 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 10, with services 10:30 a.m.
    Monday, June 11, all at Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Woodburn. Vault in
    terment
    will be at Gervais Masonic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mid-Will
    amette
    Valley Hospice.

    WOODBURN - Bertha was born June 21, 1916 at Taylor, Texas to Adolph an
    d Helen (Gusa) Burtke.

    As a small girl the family moved to the Amity, Oregon area and settle
    d on a farm.

    She married Warren Bruce Barner October 9, 1937 at Vancouver, WA.

    Later moved to Gervais, OR, spent 60 yrs. of their married life in th
    e area.

    She belonged to the Gervais Fire Dept. Auxiliary. Bertha moved to Wood
    burn in 2001

    until her death Aug. 29, 2011 at the age of 95 yrs. She is survived b
    y her children; Carl Barner of Salem, Anita Blaumer of Salem, Alice Wr
    ight of Lake Oswego. Sisters; Frieda Thompson of Hillsboro, Susan Will
    iams of Vancouver, BC, 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

    Her husband preceded her in death in 2001.

    Graveside service will be Thurs. Sept. 1, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Gervais M
