Rev. Charles W. Barner MYERSTOWN The Rev. Charles W. Barner, 84, entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 16, 2009, at the E.C.C Retirement Village Stoneridge Village Health Care Center. Born on July 19, 1925, in Richfield, the son of the late Elmer Newton and Blanche Ludella (Basom) Barner. On March 19 1983, Rev. Barner married the former Etta Dysle, who survives. His passing breaks a marital union of of 26 yeas. He was preceded by his first wife Marietta (Van Horne) Barner on January 23, 1982. He was a 1944 graduate of East Hempfield High School and a 1949 graduate of Moravian College, Bethlehem, studying Theology at Moravian Theological Seminary. He was an Ordained minister of the Evangelical Congregational Church, retiring in 1990. He was Pastor for the following congregations in PA, The Blue Church of Williams Twp from 1945 to 1947; The Reedsville Charge from 1947 to 1953; St. Matthew's Church of Emmaus from 1953 to 1961; Grace Church of Allentown from 1961 to 1967; St. Paul's Church in Reading from 1967 to 1970; First Church of Palmyra from 1984 to 1990; and Bethany Church in Allentow from 1990 to 1994. He served as Chief employed officer of Christia Endeavor International of Columbus, OH, from 1970 to 1984 and as the General Secretary of the World's Christian Endeavor Union from 1972 to 1984, in Columbus, OH. Rev. Barner served as President of Kiwanis club and the PTA, while in Emmaus, and was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Gahanna, OH, from 1970 to 1984. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children and their spouses, Charles Timothy Barner and his wife, Kathy Guthrie of Washington, D.C., Bruce E. Barner, of Atlanta, Ga., and Rebecca A. Cathers and her husband, Scott of McDonough, Ga.; six grandchildren, Matthew Cameron, Eric Barner, Michelle Tate, Jennifer Von Essen, Jon Fenn and James Fenn; five greatgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Rev. Barner was the last of his immediate family. He was preceded by five brothers , Victor, Malvern, Palmer, Herman, and Robert Barner; four sisters, Bertha Book, Grace Fogle, Mary Weider, and Almeda Aumiller. Friends and family are invited for the Graveside Committal service at 2 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2009, at St. John (Barner's) Lutheran Church Cemetery, 5 Barners Church Road, Liverpool. A viewing will be held from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Friday, at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes. Inc., 606 N. Front St. Liverpool. Officiating will be the Rev. Dana M. Logan, Chaplain of E.C.C Retirement Village. A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009, at the Evangelical Theological Seminary Chapel, 121 S. College St., Myerstown. Officiating will be the Rev. Michael W. Sigman. The family will provide the flowers. Memorial gifts may be made in loving memory of Rev. Barner to a charity of the donor's choosing.

The Rev. Charles W. Barner, 84, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at the ECC Retirement Village-StoneRidge Village Health Care Center, Myerstown.
Rev. Barner was born on July 19, 1925, in Richfield, the son of the late Elmer Newton and Blanche Ludella (Basom) Barner.

On March 19, 1983, Rev. Barner married the former Etta Dysle, who survives. His passing breaks a marital union of 26 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marietta (Van Horne) Barner, on Jan. 23, 1982.
