Born Sept. 20, 1932, at Clearfield, she was the daughter of the late J ames and Hanna Houser George. Ruby was retired from the former C.A. Reed Company at Williamsport whe e she had been a credit manager. She enjoyed craft painting, playin g bingo, and performing crossword puzzles. Ruby is survived by her son, Keith C. (Cathy) Ohnmeiss, of Montoursvil le; her granddaughter, Becky (Thomas) Jarvi, of Ypsilanti, Mich.; he two grandsons, Chris (Jen) Ohnmeiss, of Marquette, Mich. and Nick (M ichelle) Ohnmeiss, of Marquette, Mich.; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her late parents, she was also predeceased by her lat e husband, Maynard L. Ohnmeiss and her late son, Kent Ohnmeiss. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, a t the Charles M. Noll Funeral Home. The Rev. David Keller, pastor at H eshbon Park United Methodist Church, will officiate. Born Nov. 14, 1951, in Susquehanna Twp, Juniata Co, she was a daughter of Ruby (Lyter) Goodling, Richfield, and the late Howard Goodling. She was a 1969 graduate of East Juniata High School. She was employed as an administrative assistant for the State System of Higher Education, Harrisburg. She was a member and secretary of the Oriental Valley Sportsmen's Association and a member of Leininger's Lutheran Church, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2. In addition to her mother, she is survived by two brothers, Terence of Millerstown RR2 and Gerald of Mechanicsburg; one sister, Dale Frymoyer of Port Trevorton RR 1; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home by the Rev. Celo V. Leitzel. She was born in Lock Haven on Nov. 14, 1948, a daughter of the late Ca lvin Stringfellow and Marjorie Allen. Janice enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and s pent her spare time at Atlantic City and Salamanca, N.Y., playing th e slot machines. She worked for Hammermill for 14 years until it closed. Surviving are two sons, David G. Barner and Steven R. Sh e was a former employee of the Shellenberger Shirt Co, Richfield, an d she and her late husband owned and operated a farm in East Buffalo T wp. She attended the Mountain Chapel, New Berlin, and had been a pianist t here. She volunteered at the Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisbur g. She is survived by two sons; Donald C. Fogle and wife, Sharon, of Lewi sburg and Harold E. Fogle and his wife Sharon, of Lewisburg RR1. Hofer, 88, longtime South Williamsport resident, former ly of Bayard Street, went to be with the Lord on the morning of Saturd ay, Oct. 16, 2010, at the Sycamore Manor Health Center, Montoursville. Miss Hofer had been an active, loyal and dedicated member of the Sout h Williamsport United Methodist Church, where she had been a member si ce 1935. She had served on a number of committees including the flowe care committee and also the Worship membership committee. Miss Hofer retired in 1983 from the former Winchester Optical Compan y of Williamsport, where she had served for 40 years in the office. She was a member of the Susquehanna Chapter of the American Business W omen, a member of AARP, and a member of the Messiah Senior Citizens a t South Williamsport. Born March 10, 1922, at Williamsport, she was the daughter of the lat e William and LeVerne Barner Hofer. In addition to her late parents, she was also preceded in death by he two brothers, Hamilton G. Hofer and Norris W. Hofer. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at th e Charles M. Noll Funeral Home, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport . Her pastor, Rev. Mark D. Brumbach, will officiate. He was born on Dec. 6, 1948 in Lock Haven, the son of Clair J. and Mol lie Stover Schrack. Jerry was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force. He r etired as a corrections officer from the Muncy State Prison and had al so worked in the sporting goods department in Wal-Mart. He was a member of First Church of Christ. Surviving him are his father of Charleston, S.C.; his wife, the forme Sally Jane Stevenson, with whom he would have celebrated their 40t h wedding anniversary on Feb. 8; a son, Jerry R. She had been in ill health for the p ast six years. She was born on Dec. 5, 1946, in New Danville, a daughter of the lat e Ken and Winifred (Nissley) Bechtold, of Malta Home, Granville. On No v. 17, 1979, she married John M. Barner, who survives. She graduated from Kishacoquillas High School, Class of 1964. She grad uated from Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing in 1979. She worked for Lewistown Hospital for 11 years. During this time she a ttended Harrisburg Area Community College to work on her RN degree. She loved to read and do needlework. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Karen S . Rhodes, of Gaithersburg, Md., and Angela M. Esch, of Strafford, N.H. ; a stepdaughter, Amy L. Barner, of Lewistown; a stepson, Timothy M. 263 | John I. Shadle, 83, of Williamsport, passed away Feb. 9, 2011, at the Williamsport Home. He was born June 23, 1927, in South Williamsport, the son of Sanford Lloyd and Blanche Myrtle Smith Shadle. John was the husband of the former Geraldine "Jeri" Markham with whom he shared 48 loving years of marriage prior to her passing in 2008. He served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years including World War II and Korea, retiring as Chief Petty Officer. He owned and operated Shadle's Texaco. John was a member of the Fleet Reserve. He is survived by two daughters, Linda A. Bloom of Williamsport and Susan B. Reed of Whitehouse Station, N.J.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet Storm of Florida. He is also survived by two sons, William Shadle of Nev. and Sanford (Jill) Shadle of Monterey, Calif. John was predeceased by his parents; a son, John Shadle Jr.; a brother, Gene Shadle; a sister, Gay Shadle; one granddaughter, Amanda Davis; and a sonin- law, Michael Bloom. 264 | JOHN W. LUPOLD, train dispatcher at Sunbury for the PA ailroad, has held that position since 1893 - the longest period on ecord in Sunbury that any one man has served in that capacity. He wa s born Feb. 3, 1867, at White Deer, Union Co, Pa., son of Samuel Lupold and grandson of John Lupold. John W. Lupold obtained his education in the public schools of White Deer Twp, Union county. In 1882 he learned cigar-making, which he followed for several years, and when eighteen years old he learned telegraphy at White Deer. He has since been engaged in railroa d work. He was employed at different points on the Philadelphia & Readin g oad until 1889, when he changed to the Sunbury division of the PA road, in the fall of 1890 being transferred to Sunbury and given a position in the superintendent's office. He was engaged as message operator and copier in the train dispatcher's office until promoted to train dispatcher in 1893. He has since filled this esponsible position, in which he has the longest record of any incumbent at Sunbury. Mr. Lupold has been thoroughly identified with local interests since he became a resident of the borough, and in 1908 he was elected a member of the board of education, from the Seventh ward; he was a member of the building committee which had in charge th e erection of the Francis E. Drumheller school, erected in 1910, one of the finest school buildings in this section and a great source of prid e in the borough. In political matters Mr. Lupold is a Republican, with independent inclinations. In 1890 Mr. Lupold married Grace M. Ely, daughter of James Ely, and they have three children: Merrill, who was a member of the class of 19 11 of the Sunbury high school; Martha Esther; and Ruth Elizabeth. In 1899 Mr. Lupold built the comfortable home at No. 307 Catawissa avenue whic h he has since occupied with his family. Born Feb. 23, 1899, in Oriental, Liverpool RD1, he was a son of the la te William H. and Alice C. Barner Light. He married Helen Devline, who d ied in 1937. In 1947, he married Mae Cejrner. He was a licensed practical nurse at Pennhurst State School. Later se ttling in the New England states, he was employed at Middletown, Conn., Stat e Hospital. Later, he was employed as a supervisor at Fairfield State Hospital. H e retired in 1956 as supervisor at Middletown, Conn., State Hospital. He was of the Lutheran faith. He was a member and past president of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Middl etown, Conn.; a member and past president of Hospital A.F.L.; a member and pa st governor of Loyal Order of Moose, Middletown, Conn.; he was a member o f F&AM Lodge 18, Sandy Hook, Conn., Woodmen of the World 171, Sunbury, Masoni c Veterans Organization, and Council A.F.L., Hartford, Conn.; and a life member o f Chapter 1 Consistory, Sandy Hook, Conn. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ida L. Or tman of Mishawaka, Ind., and Mrs. Dora Heckman of South Bend, Ind.; and a brot her, W. Stanley of Liverpool RD1. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the George P. Garma Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, by the Rev. Carl Graybill. Burial will b e in Barners Church Cemetery, Liverpool RD1. 268 | Jul 16, 2016 Mervin E. Goodling, 95, of Mifflintown, entered into rest on Friday, J uly 15, 2016, at his home. He was born on September 14, 1920, in Orien tal, the son of the late Calvin Edwin and Mae S. (Frymoyer) Goodling. On July 27, 1940, he married the former Geraldine Mae Kratzer, who pre ceded him on May 21, 2011. Her passing broke a loving marital union o f 70 years. Mervin was a self-employed truck driver, operating in 38 states for 6 0 years and logging six million miles. Upon semi-retiring from truckin g, he delivered cars for local dealerships, officially retiring at th e age of 87. He was a member of the Richfield Mennonite Church for many years. Merv in enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing in Canada. He loved going t o area restaurants with family and friends. Most of all, he loved atte ding sporting events of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta J. and Ri chard Grovatt, of Southampton, N.J., and Colleen M. and Jerry Frontz , of McAlisterville; four grandchildren, Heidi L. Witnesses helped police find the man suspected of causing the crash. T hat driver, a 56-year-old man, left the scene of the crash according t o investigators. The suspect was booked at the Pierce County Jail on vehicular homicid e charges. The deadly hit-and-run crash happened on Ninth Street in Puyallup at a ound 7 p.m. Ryan Seward was riding home from work on his scooter whe police say the driver of an SUV, who they believe was drunk, crosse d the center line and hit Seward head-on. Good Samaritan helps track down hit-and-run driver Ryan Seward spent the last 20 years serving in the Coast Guard. His wi fe said he planned on retiring this December to go back to school to b ecome a history teacher. "Mrs. Seward described her husband as a ‘pay it forward’ kind of guy, " said Puyallup Police Lieutenant Scott Engle. Police said Seward’s family is grateful for the actions of Brian Flinc hbaugh. Flinchbaugh, 29, from Graham, was on his way home from his 22-month-ol d daughter’s swim lesson when he saw the driver accused of causing th e wreck speed away from the scene. "I was mad that someone would actually do that to a person’s family, " said Flinchbaugh. While he followed the driver, his wife Rochelle called 9-1-1 and tol d police where they were going. Puyallup officers arrested the drive about 3 miles from the crash scene. Ryan Seward, 46, is shown here with his wife. When Flinchbaugh found out he helped catch a driver who had killed som eone, he was glad he took quick action. He was a member of the American Legion Post 33 in Bellef onte, the Millheim Fire Company, the Undine Fire Company, and the Walk er Township Fire Company. Larry was a strong person in both body and m ind and he valued hard work. He could fix almost anything. He enjoye d woodworking, shooting darts, riding motorcycles, gardening, making h omemade wine, the Phillies, and watching history and travel DVDs. Hi s retirement years were spent with his children and grandchildren. H e would stop at the drop of a hat to go to them and lend a helping han d. He was very proud of his five grandsons, and enjoyed babysitting an d attending their baseball games. He loved to tell stories and visit w ith friends and old work mates. In accordance with Larry's wishes, fun eral services will be private. H e was born May 30, 1922 in PA to Stanley Cyrus Barner and Lillian Ma e (Sheaffer) Barner. He earned an engineering degree at University o f Pittsburgh. In World War II he was in an OSS unit when he met his wi fe to be, Vicky Dakat-quick Morgan (Trimble). After both were discharg ed at the end of the war, they married September 8, 1945 in Cleveland , OH. Leroy continued in the Army Reserves and retired as a Colonel. H e worked as a design engineer at Republic Steel, Bendix, Conductron an d Chrysler. He enjoyed doing geneological research and was active in t he Barner Reunion committees. He traveled to Germany a few times looki g for German Barner family. He attended the 50th anniversary of D-Da y meeting with several surviving French Underground acquaintances. H e partici-pated in bowling leagues, deer hunting, talking to everyone . He considered the local Big Boy his own private club. He was precede d in death by his parents; his brother, Warren Barner; his daughter, S usan Adele Barner Morseau; and his wife, Vicky Barner. He is survive d by his sister, Maxine Grandon; his brother, Stanley C. Mrs. Swartz graduated from Goucher College with a bachelor's of ar t degree in 1933 and also from Bucknell University where she earned he master's degree in mathematics in 1936. It was at Bucknell Universit y where she met her husband-to-be, Lloyd Monroe Swartz, or Richfield , who is the son of the late Banks and Dora (Barner) Swartz. They wer e married July 17, 1941 and her passing breaks a marital union of 63 y ears. She was a former member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Lewisburg, t he Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Dormont, and at the time of her deat h, was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Mount Lebanon. She wa s active in church activities. Mrs. Swartz had an avid interest in family history and was a member o f the Genealogy Group of Mount Lebanon Public Library. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are one son, Lloyd Minor Swart z and wife Carol of Boerne, TX; two daughters, Eleanor S. He wa s also formerly employed by HRI and Dunkle and Grieb as a truck drive and mechanic. In earlier years he was a dairy farmer and drove a mil k truck for himself and Hawksworth Trucking. Lewie and Iolene were wed on March 1, 1958, and shared over 53 years o f marriage together. He was a member of the Sugar Valley Church of the Brethren. He was a f ounder and Director of the Clinton County Fair and helped provide muc h of the electrical service. He was also earlier in life active as a 4 H leader. He is survived by his wife and four sons, David L. Snook (Pam) of Loga ton, Rodney P. Snook (Dawn) of Lykens, Gale L. Snook (Tina) of Lock H aven and Lewis D.
