They observed their 58th weddin g anniversary on March 1. Born in Jersey Shore, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Mar y E. (Barner) Furl. She was a member of Hope United Church of Christ in Allentown. She wa s also a member of the GMC Colonial Travelers and the Lehigh County Se ior Citizens Center. She was a past member of the Phoebe Home Auxilia y. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Cynthia, wife of William Kr ause of Allentown; a sister, Leila Hiller of Jersey Shore; grandchildr en Christopher Krause of Limington, Maine and Robin Hartman of Palm Ha bor, Fla.; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20 in the church. Inte ment will be at the convenience of the family. 352 | Lois E. Karstetter POSTED: December 16, 2007 Lois E. Karstetter, 93, of Rauchtown Road, passed away Saturday, Decem ber 15, 2007, at Manor Care. She was born December 4, 1914, in Oval, the daughter of Guy and Myrtl e Epler Barner. Lois was married to the late Leslie Karstetter who passed in 1972. She was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid S ociety. Lois enjoyed crocheting and quilting with the ladies at the church. She is survived by two sons, Robert (Shirley) of Rauchtown, Larry (Mar ie) of Loganton and a daughter, Nelda (David) Moore of Jersey Shore; f ive grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great great grandc hildren; a sister, Margaret Reading of Jersey Shore; two brothers, Wil liam Barner of Williamsport and John Barner of Lock Haven and many nie ces and nephews. Lois was predeceased by her parents, her husband, a son Donald, a brot her Harry Barner and a sister Marie Eck. 353 | Longtime Lampasas City Councilman E.E. "Junior" Ohnmeiss, 77, died Nov ember 10, 2003 at Rollins Brook Community Hospital. Funeral services were Nov. 13 at Dodson Funeral Home Chape l with Minister Reid Schaub officiating. Burial followed at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery near Evant. Mr. Ohnmeiss was born April 5, 1926, in Williamsport, Pa., to Ellery a d Susan Florey Ohnmeiss. When he was 6 years old, Mr. Ohnmeiss was sent to Girard College in Philadelphia, and he gradua ted from there in 1943. Mr. Ohnmeiss then attended Penn State University for one year and was called to Army duty durin g World War II. He earned battle stars for service in France and Germany. After VE Day, Mr. Ohnmeiss and his unit were sen t to North Camp Hood to train for assignments in the Pacific. He was there when the war ended. He married Mavis Renken on February 17, 1946, in Hamilton [Texas]. Mr . Ohnmeiss had lived in Lampasas since 1954. He served as acting mayor for one year. He then re-entered the politica l arena in 1992, when he again was elected to the council. After he resigned his seat in 1998, he was named "Honorary Councilma for Life" by the city. He had worked at Wieser Feed Mill and Evergreen Feed Mill for a combined 44 years until his retirem ent in April 1991. Mr. Ohnmeiss was a member of the Lions Club and AMVETS Post 80, where he served as provost marshal. In March 1999, a portion of U.S. Highway 190 was renamed E.E. J. Ohnme iss Drive in his honor. Mr. Ohnmeiss is survived by his wife of Lampasas; two daughters, Mar y Atherton, and husband, Woody, of Gatesville, and Dr. Donna Ohnmeiss , of Plano; a son, John Ohnmeiss, and wife Elizabeth, of Lampasas; gra dchildren, Celia and Joel Wayne Sellers; and great-grandchildren, Che yenne and Wyatt Sellers, of Jonesboro. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Ohnmeiss, and by two bro thers and a sister. The family requested that memorials be made to th e charity of one's choice. Pleasant Mills , went Home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 , at her residence. She was born Aug. 5, 1931, in Bannerville, Snyder Co, a daughter of th e late Leslie Taft and Josephine Elizabeth (Wagner) Barner. On Nov. 26 , 1948, she married Park R. "Shorty" Aucker, who survives. Her passin g breaks a loving marital union of 60 years. She retired after working 40 years as a seamstress for the former Rich field Shirt Factory. Loretta was a lifelong member of the Richfield United Methodist Churc h and its Queen Esther Sunday school class, and was a member of the Ri chfield Women's Club for more than 50 years. Loretta cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoye d playing cards, especially pinochle. She was also skilled in embroide y work. In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by one son and dau ghter-in-law, John L. and Barbara E. Aucker of Beavertown; one daughte , Connie D. Weber of Middleburg; one son-in-law, William Weber II; fi ve grandchildren and their spouses, Brian E. Aucker, John L. II and Ki ley Aucker, Nichole D. and Dane Hockenbrock, William "Skip" III and Mi chelle Weber, and Thaddeus J. Lowell was born April 12, 1938, in Buff alo, N.Y., a son of Norman and Louise (Messner) Barner. He was the hus band of Patricia A. (Holcomb) Barner. Lowell hauled milk for East Smithfield Farms from 1959 to 1968, he wa s a dairy farmer from 1968 to 1978, then drove truck for Milton Transp ortation from 1978 to 1995. He was a member of East Point United Methodist Church. Lowell's favori te pastimes included riding snowmobiles, growing Christmas trees, trav eling and auto body painting and repairs. She was also a cook for the Pepper Run Huntin g Club for many years. Jean also loved sitting on her front porch and "gossiping" with friend s. She was also a fine seamstress and avid quilter. Jean also served on the election board and zoning-hearing board for ma y years and belonged to the Sugar Valley Vol. Fire Co. #13, ladies au xiliary. She was a 1942 graduate of Lock Haven High School and attended the for mer School of Commerce in Williamsport. June began her working career as a secretary for GTE Sylvania in Mil l Hall. Then as the assistant manager for the Federal Housing Authorit y, she oversaw the daily operation of housing units in Lock Haven fo women who came to Lock Haven to work at Piper and GTE Sylvania durin g World War II. After the war she moved to Jersey Shore where she continued her secret arial skills at Ugite Gas Co., C.H. Young Mfg., Jersey Shore Shirt Fac tory and with attorney L. Waldo Herritt. She also was formerly employe d by Lowry Electric Co., and the Lycoming County Courthouse in the Reg ister and Recorder's Office and by STEP as a typist and secretary in t he Bi County Office of Aging. June was a member of Crossroads Community Church and was active with t he Senior's Group and also enjoyed reading and cooking. She is survived by a daughter, Cinde Bower Stout (Dore) of South Willi amsport; two sons, Paul Bower (Dianne) of Avis and Craig Bower (Denise ) of Jersey Shore; a sister, Betty Quilty of Ocala, Fla.; five grandch ildren; and five great-grandchildren. Born May 30, 1905 in Juniata Co, she was the daug hter of the late John L. and Daisy Irene [Zeiders] Gelnett. November 14, 1928 she married Roy Curtis Lyter, who preceded her in de ath December 31, 1960. Mrs. Lyter graduated in 1926 from Millerstown High School, furthered h er education at Millersville State Teachers College and received her teac hing certificate from Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove. For many year s she taught school at Susquehanna Elementary School, Juniata Co, and taught in the grammar schools in her area of Juniata County. A life member of St. James United Methodist Church, Millerstown RR2, s he taught Sunday school and served as pianist when needed. She was als o a member of the Millerstown Ambulance League and enjoyed reading. Surviving are five children: Ronald E. Lyter, Willow Street, PA; Gera ld M. Lyter, Millerstown RR2; John W. Lyter, at home; Connie L. Byers, Mille stown RR1; and Sally A. Losch, China; one brother, Roy Gelnett, Millerstown ; two sisters, Violet Light, Millerstown and Sara Hoover, Millerstown RR2; 1 1 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Oscar Gelnett; o e grandson, Randall Scott Lyter; and one granddaughter, Rosie Byers, i 1979. Born Dec. 13, 1926, in the Newberry section of Williamsport, she was t he daughter of Robert and Margaret (Murnane) Ohnmeiss. She graduated from the Williamsport High School, class of 1946. She i s retired from the Williamsport Nursing Home as a nurse's aide. She al so worked as a personal caregiver for several families in the Williams port area. Marguerite was a founding member and ardent volunteer for St. Joseph t he Worker Parish bingo, which celebrates its 40th year this April. In 1952, she married James G. Norris Sr., of Williamsport. Together th ey celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary on December 27th. In addition to her husband, she is survived by six sons and three daug hters: Anastasia Toner, of Loyalsock, James Jr. (Linda), of Randolph , New Jersey, Christopher (Sueanne), of Williamsport, Donald (Lori), o f Shreveport, La., Cornelius (Kendra), of Scottsdale, Ariz., Margare t (Kirk) Osborne, of Rockford, Ill., Daniel (Beth), of Duncansville, P a., Michael (Flor), of Wake Forest, N.C., and Judith (Jonathan) Helms , of Charlotte, N.C. She was married on May 27, 1 950 to the late Benjamin M. Bierly with whom she shared 54 years of ma iage. She was born on Jan. 15, 1923 in Jersey Shore, a daughter of the lat e Melvin and Anna Fisher Larrison. Marion graduated from Jersey Shore High School. She was the chief oper ator for Bell Telephone at the Jersey Shore branch and for the New Yor k Central Railroad. She also worked for Russell's Flower Shop for a nu mber of years as a floral designer. Marion was a devoted wife, loving mother and the best grandmother anyo e could imagine. Her family was her life. She had a model marriage an d a loving relationship with her husband Ben. The couple truly enjoye d their more than 50 years together. Whether itwas an evening of dinne and dancing with Ben or a weekend with her grandchildren, Marion che ished the time she spent with her family. Marion and Ben attended Grace Lutheran Church in Jersey Shore and ha d many friendships within the local community. Always prepared and eag er to lend a helping hand, Marion had a genuine passion for kindness a d compassion for others. Her beloved husband, Walter H. Hatkevich, passed away in 2003, just sh y of their 60th wedding anniversary. She was a graduate of William Penn High School and attended Penn State , where she met her husband; volunteered at Downtown Daily Bread; love d to read Louis L'Amour books and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, makin g Christmas ornaments and baking. As a leader in the Girl Scouts of Am erica, Hemlock Council, she spent many years working with and preparin g young girls for life. Mrs. Hatkevich was dedicated to her family and her church. She was a m ember for over 40 years at Paxton Presbyterian Church, where she wa s a deacon and member of the Kirkers Sunday School Class. Deeply invol ved in church functions, she was part of the Kitchen Crew, cooking an d baking for various events, and was a member of the Sewing Circle, ma king Comfort Blankets for children and women in crisis. She especially enjoyed traveling and spending time in Craigsville, V A with her son; where she helped build his log cabin, and attended Leb anon Presbyterian Church there, helping with the Apple Butter Boil. Barner, 60 of Middleburg RD 3, Washington Twp, expired at 9:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5th at the Gold Star Nursing Home, Milton where he has been a guest since Dec. 24, 1969. He has been in ill health the past number of years and death was attributed to a heart condition. He was a native of Mt. Pleasant Mills RD 1. While still a child, his family moved to Pfoutz Valley, Millerstown RD. He received his education in the Greenwood Twp Schools. After his schooling he helped his parents on the farm. In 1932 the family moved to Selinsgrove RD, where they engaged in farming. Several years later they moved to the Middleburg RD sector at which time he began employment in the old Freeburg Silk Mill, later working at Wood-Metal, Industries in Kreamer. He retired several years ago due to ill health. The past four years Mr. Barner had been Tax Collector of Washington Twp. Mr. Barner was born Feb. 17, 1909, at Mt. Pleasant Mills RD 1, Perry Twp. the son of the late M. Luther Barner and Dora May Markley Braner [sic]. He was a member of the Barner's Lutheran Church, Liverpool RD 1. Surviving him are one brother, Carl F. Barner, with whom he esided; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. Services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. from the Garman funeral home, Mt. Mr. Barner was born April 23, 1886 at Liverpool RD. He was the son of the late Jacob and Alice Deckard Barner. He was a member of St. John's (Barner's) Lutheran Church, Liverpool RD. He was married to Dora Markley, August 8, 1908. She preceded him in death August 6, 1924. He is survived by two sons, Markley and Carl Barner, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Jennie Sechrist of Millerstown, Mrs. Minnie Rhoads, Selinsgrove, and Mrs. Milton Gelnett of Liverpool; a brother, Lee Barner of Harrisburg. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Garman's funeral home, Mt. Pleasant Mills. Rev. Theodore Lindquist, pastor of the Liverpool Lutheran parish, will officiate. Co, Penn. on Aug 9th, 184 7, and passed away at her home Sat., May 25, 1935, having reached the ag e of 88 years 9 months and 16 days. At thye age of 6 months she moved with her family to Stephenson, Count y Illinois. In 1866 she was united in marriage to Henry W. Cooper, who preceded her in death in 1913. Mrs. Cooper was a very active woman in spite of her advanced age, mana ging her own household and always being interested in church work. She wa s a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. On April 19 she suffered a f all, later contracting pneumonia, gradually failing until the end. She was lovingly and tenderly cared for by her daughter, Mrs. IVA STUFFLEBEAM. Besides the daughter mentioned she leaves to mourn her loss, Will Coop er of Plainfield, and four daughters, Mrs. Mae Potter of Bruce, Ore., Mrs . Bessie Gorsche of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Alma Kerns of Council Bluffs, I a., and Mrs. Nora Cooper of Mission Ridge, South Dakota. One son, Clarence passed away in infancy. During high school, Shawn worked at Gettig Pharmaceuticals in Sp ing Mills. He played the trumpet in numerous local bands, including t he Deacons of Dixieland. Shawn was proficient with many brass instrume ts, but was devoted to playing the trumpet. He had played in a cruis e band for Carnival Cruises, served as an instruction assistant with t he Penns Valley, Bald Eagle Valley and Holidaysburg marching bands, an d prior to going to work on his masters degree, was employed by Rober t M. Sides music store in State College. He was a member of St. John s United Church of Christ in Tylersville. In addition to his father, h e is survived by a sister, Cindy L. Brown, of Millheim, and a niece, C assidy. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2 005, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. PA A ve., Centre Hall. A memorial service is also being planned for mid-Jan uary at a date and time to be announced. Entombment will be at Centr e County Memorial Park, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, at the conven ience of the family. 398 | McGhee, Jeffery Michael Jeffery Michael McGhee July 26, 1947 - May 8, 2007 Jeffery Micheal McG hee passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 in the M.S. Hershey Medical Ce ter. Jeff was a 1965 graduate of the Bellefonte Area High School wher e he played football and was an avid supporter of other school sports . He was a staunch Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a long-time membe of Teamsters Local Union #8. He served as a Union Steward, a Picke t Captain on the strike lines, as a member of numerous committees, an d as Secretary-Treasurer and Business Agent of Teamsters Local #8 fo 15 years. He retired from the PA State University in February 2007 . He was also a member of the Moose Lodge #206 and Elks Lodge # 1094 i Bellefonte. Preceding him in death was his father Robert R. McGhee a d his step-father Howard Hardy. Surviving is his wife, Suzanne "Sana " (Maelhorn) McGhee, two daughters, Tana N. of Howard, PA and Shawna M . of Charlotte, NC, their fianc?s and two grandchildren, Talyn & Jadyn . His mother Vonda McGhee & sister Darlla of Lock Haven, Clinton Co, P A and two nieces Andrea Stow of Fishers, IN and Jennifer Homan of Bell efonte, Centre Co, PA six step-brothers, Samuel and Gary Hardy of Cast anea, PA, Howard Hardy of MI, Andrew Hardy of West Fargo, ND, Jay Hard y of Pleasant Gap, PA, and Tim Hardy of Milesburg, PA. 399 | McGhee, Vonda J. View/Sign Guest Book Vonda J. McGhee November 6, 1927 - December 12, 2007 Vonda J. McGhee , 80, of Pine Haven Apts, Lock Haven, Clinton Co, PAssed away Wednesda y, December 12, 2007, at the Lock Haven Hospital ECU. She had been i failing health for several years, and had been receiving care from S outhern Care Hospice for the last two and a half years. Born in Orvist on November 6, 1927, Vonda was the only child of the late Ira Leo an d Beulah G. (Toots) Packer Condo. She was a member of the Bellefonte H igh School graduating class of 1945. She met Robert R. (Bob) McGhee o f Lock Haven, and married him on September 11, 1946. They had two chil dren, the late Jeffery M. McGhee and Darlia K. Conway. When Bob return ed to active duty with the Army, she enjoyed traveling and living in T ennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana, Hanau, Germany and Texas. She returne d to the Bellefonte area in 1960 when her husband was transferred to B angkok, Thailand, where he subsequently died on Feb. 13, 1962. Vonda g aduated as an LPN from Centre Community Hospital Nursing School in 19 63, where she worked until 1965. She then moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fl a. to work as a private duty nurse for terminally ill patients. She re turned to Lock Haven in 1973 to help care for her mother, and also wor ked as an LPN at Susque-View Nursing Home. She met her best friend, he companion of over 20 years, Howard N. Hardy, on New Year's Eve, Dece mber 31, 1975. They formed a business partnership, V&H Enterprises, ba sed on their hobbies and interests. They traveled to flea markets an d fairs, where he sold watches, guns, knives and military memorabilia , and she demonstrated and sold Pretty Punch Embroidery. Vonda becam e the Northeast Region distributor for Pretty Punch of Florida, and he ld seminars to each others one of her many hobbies. When Hardy retire d from International Paper Co. in 1989, they sold their business and b egan wintering in Sebring, Fla. until Hardy's death on January 26, 199 5. In September 1996, Vonda moved to The Hampton's in Auburndale, Fla. , where she resided year-round until her failing health caused her t o return to Lock Haven in May. Vonda's hobbies were punch embroidery , knitting, crocheting, sewing, playing cards, bingo, dancing and trav eling. She enjoyed taking cruises with Hardy and her friends to the Ca ibbean Islands, Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska. She is survived by her dau ghter, Darlla K. Conway of Lock Haven; Hardy's six sons, Samuel D. Har dy and Gary L. Hardy of Lock Haven, Jay P. Hardy of Pleasant Gap, W. T imothy Hardy of Milesburg, Andrew M. Hardy of West Fargo, N.D. and Pas tor Howard N. Hardy, Jr. of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 19 grandchildren an d 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffer y M. McGhee of Bellefonte, and by a grandson. In lieu of flowers, memo ial donations may be made to Southern care Hospice, care of the funer al home. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at 10 a. m. at Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven with the Re v. Randy Perry officiating. 400 | Melvin L. "Bud" Hauser, 80, of English Center, passed away early Wednesday evening, August 4, 2010 at the Highlands Care Center in Laporte. He was born August 26, 1929, in Nippenose Twp, a son of Henry W. and Lydia Kreitz Hauser Sr. Bud was a 1947 graduate of Jersey Shore High School and married the former Victoria Homler in June of 1947. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Bud and his wife operated the former Panther Restaurant in English Center and he retired from Alcan Cable after 35 years of employment. His survivors include his children, Janet Barnhart of Jersey Shore, Kimberly Myers of Antes Fort and Melvin L. "Buddy" Hauser Jr. of Trout Run; one brother, Frederic J. Hauser of Linden, along with 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Also survived by a special friend, Mary Jane Ross of Salladasburg. He was predeceased by his wife and a daughter, Kathy Hauser Decker, in 1980 and brothers, Jack, Alfred and Henry Jr. Services will be held at noon Monday, August 9, 2010 at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, Ltd., Jersey Shore.
