She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church; a 1938 graduate of Liverp ool High School and Central PA Business School; and liked cooking, cam ping and reading. She was the widow of Barner Russell Deckard. Surviving are a son, Kevin L. of Harrisburg; two daughters, Judy Wheat ley of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Brenda Alwine of Harrisburg; five grand daughters; and four great-grandchildren. He was born in Massillon, Apri l 3, 1925, the son of the late Clem and Della (Spindler) Indorf, and r esided in the Navarre area since 1953. He was a retired Farmer. In add ition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by two brothers, Don ald and Robert Indorf. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie A. (Barner ) Indorf; a daughter, Karen A. Persun, 89, of 79 Summer Mountain Road, a lifelong resident o f Sugar Valley, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, De c. 2, 2011, at her home. She was born Dec. 6, 1921, in Tylersville, a daughter of the late Harr y H. and Mae Frantz Miller. She was married to Gene W. Persun on Oct . 19, 1963. She graduated from the Sugar Valley School in 1939. Grace worked at Pe qua Lure Co. and retired from Gettig Pharmaceutical Co. Grace was a lifelong member of St. Johns United Church of Christ of Ty lersville, where she served on church council, as well as numerous oth er committees. She was a lifelong member of the Southern Clinton Count y Sportsmen Club. Grace's greatest joy was spending time with her fami ly and friends. An avid outdoors person, she enjoyed gardening, especi ally growing flowers, hunting and fly fishing. She also enjoyed travel ing, particularly their annual family Canadian fishing trip. Grace is survived by her husband, Gene W. Persun of Tylersville; a son , Randell (Vonnie) Mark of Lamar; granddaughters, Julie (Michael) Geye and Jinell (Scott) Krout of Mill Hall; six great-grandchildren, Chel sea, Michaela and Megan Geyer, and Jared, Jordan and Mya Krout; and nu merous nieces and nephews. Born in Loganton on Sept. 4, 1926, his father’s 20th birthday, he wa s the son of Walter J. Barner and Leah G. (Schrack) Barner. He was a member of the Sugar Valley Church of the Brethren, Eastville . Grant went to work in a blacksmith shop in Albany, N.Y. when he wa s 16 years old, and worked as a blacksmith in Jersey Shore, and with t he New York City Central Railroad. He also worked as a laborer on man y construction sites. He retired from Avis Homes, Inc. after more tha 10 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1944 to 1946. Grant wa s a member of the American Legion Post #284, Avis; the VFW Post #5859 , Jersey Shore, and the Local 824 Labor International Union of North A merica. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, a daughter, Barbara (Larry) Mu o of Jersey Shore, and five sons; Walter (Peggy) Barner and Gordon ( Lori) Barner of Loganton, James (Vicki) Barner of Jersey Shore, Jerr y (Nancy) Barner of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Dale (Pam) Barner of Spri gfield, Tenn.; 26 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in de ath by her husband, Dorsey Barner Gruver, her brothers and sisters, an d one grandson. Melva is survived by her four children, five grandchil dren and three great grandchildren. Compassionate by nature, Melva enj oyed volunteer nursing, care giving and other community service throug hout most of her adult life. Melva had great respect for education an d lifelong learning. With a sharp wit and mind, she enjoyed the compan y of others and kept abreast of world affairs, even after failing eyes ight curtailed her love of reading. Melva appreciated beauty in its ma y forms in both nature and art. Her soul responded with delight to ba bies, whether human or animal, and the burst of unfolding life in spri g. Melva married Dorsey in New Kensington, PA in 1932. They moved t o Southern California in 1942 with three children, Martha, Dorsey Jr. , and Elizabeth. Their fourth child, Nina, was born in 1952. Melva an d Dorsey moved from Northridge, CA to Ashland, OR in 1977. To continu e her volunteer work, she joined the Ashland Community Hospital Auxili ary. She was also active for several years in the Garden Club, Chambe of Commerce and Shakespeare Festival. After her husband, Dorsey, die d in 1998, Melva relocated to be near family in Gig Harbor, WA and lat er to San Leandro, CA. At her request, no services will be held. He was retired from Avco after many years of service and was a membe of LaBelle Vallee Lodge No. 232 and the Williamsport Consistory. During World War II, Guy honorably served his country in the United St ates Army, from July 24, 1944 until Oct. 31, 1945. Surviving are one son, Guy N. (Melanie) Rauch of Rauchtown; two daught ers, Mary (Dave) Crist of Jersey Shore and Rose Marie (David) Ciccocio ppo of Landisville; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren ; and one brother, Lee M. He enjoyed fishing and collecting John Deere memorabilia. Upon his r etirement, Harry and his wife, Ruth, resided in the winter months in O keechobee, Fla. "Peg" (Barner) Sn yder, 91, a resident of The Brethren Home Community and formerly of Ne w Oxford, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at The Brethren Home Community. S he was the wife of the late William H. Snyder, who died Dec. 3, 1982 . Born June 7, 1905, she was the daughter of the late Collinson and E mma (Dietz) Barner. She was a member of Emory United Methodist Churc h in New Oxford. Surviving are a son, William H. Snyder III of Little ton, Colo.; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Snyder of Talent, Ore.; two grand children and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be hel d at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Assisted Living Social Room at The Brethre Home Community in New Oxford. The Rev. John P. Harold was born on January 16 , 1919 in Stapleton, NB to Lester M. and Hazel Raynard Barner. He mar ied Dorothy May Francis on October 17, 1947 in Jackson Hole, WY. H e was a rural postal route carrier. He worked for the postal servic e for 23 years and retired in 1981. Harold was very involved in the B elgrade community with such activities as an instructor for the Hunte Safety Course, helped start the first Belgrade Boy Scouts, one of th e founding fathers of the Fall Festival, City Council Member, Panthe Sports Booster, Baghdad Shrine Temple and 58 years as a Master Maso in Belgrade Lodge No.68. He was also a Master Gardener and was invo lved in the Nebraska State FFA Scholarhip Fund. Harold served his cou try in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. He is survived by his wi fe Dorothy of 57; sons: Mike Barner and Les (Diane) Barner both of Be lgrade; sister Myrtle (Alton) Dawson of Battle Ground, WA; brothers Ru ss Barner of Choteau, MT; Keith (Billie Jo) Barner of Bozeman; Jim (Ro bin) Barner of Spokane, WA; Melvin Barner of Post Falls, ID; and Bob ( Joyce) Barner of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren; 3 great grandchil dren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was born Sept. 21, 1909 in Synder Co, a sone of the late Howard M . and Sarah (Snook) Wieder. He and the former Mary Faith Barner wer e married Oct. 21, 1934. She preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 2001. He was educated at the Ridge Grammar School house in Synder County. Mr. Wieder retired from the Hempfield School District May 18, 1979, wh ere he was employed as a custodial for 18½ years. He was previously e gaged in farming for more than 20 years in the Landisville area. Mr. Wieder was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Ea st Petersburg, and its senior choir, was an usher, and assistant to th e treasurer for many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather wh o genuinely enjoyed his home and yard work. Surviving, one son and daughter-in-law, Clarence M. and Karen Wieder o f Leola; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda E. and James R. Clark o f York and Janet L. and Richard E. Neville of Denver, PA; seven grandc hildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, J ohn H. and Dorothea Wieder of Phoenixville and Richard O. and Grace Wi eder of Lowman, NY; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Savannah and Wils on Bell of Horseheads, NY, and Betty and Leroy Goss of Milroy; and thr ee generations of nieces and nephews. (Stark) Baumer. On Jan. 2, 1942, she married Ear l B. Barner who preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 2003, after 61 year s of marriage. A member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Milton, Hazel taugh t Sunday school for over 20 years and was a member of the Jolly Girl s Sunday school class. She was a member of the former Chapter 7, Easte Star, Milton. In her spare time she was a volunteer room mother in the Lewisburg pub lic schools. Hazel also enjoyed growing flowers. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald B. and Jill Barner o f Manchester, Md.; one daughter, Judy A. Berkheimer of Danville; one b other, Robert D. Baumer of Yankton, S.D.; four grandchildren; and eig ht great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by one daug hter, Connie L.
