Joan E. Barner
BEAVERTOWN - Joan E. Barner, 61, of Beavertown, passed away at 9:30 a.
m. on Oct. 10, 2008, at her home. She had been in ill health for the p
ast six years.
She was born on Dec. 5, 1946, in New Danville, a daughter of the lat
e Ken and Winifred (Nissley) Bechtold, of Malta Home, Granville. On No
v. 17, 1979, she married John M. Barner, who survives.
She graduated from Kishacoquillas High School, Class of 1964. She grad
uated from Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing in 1979.
She worked for Lewistown Hospital for 11 years. During this time she a
ttended Harrisburg Area Community College to work on her RN degree.
She loved to read and do needlework.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Karen S
. Rhodes, of Gaithersburg, Md., and Angela M. Esch, of Strafford, N.H.
; a stepdaughter, Amy L. Barner, of Lewistown; a stepson, Timothy M. B
arner, of Milroy; a granddaughter, Victoria; four stepgrandchildren, A
drew, Michael, Nichole and Nina; five great-grandchildren, Triston, N
icholas, Zoey, Jalinn and Jordyn; two brothers, Gary E. Bechtold, of M
ifflintown and Kenneth A. Bechtold, of Burnham; two half brothers, Way
e Bechtold, Brian Dirkman; and a half sister, Michelle Bechtold.
She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Carl and Glenn; and a br
other, Norman R. Bechtold.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008
, in the Aurand Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with th
e Rev. Denton Mallonee officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funera
l home.
