James C. Watkins Obituary
Liverpool - James C. "Jim" Watkins, 72 of Liverpool entered into res
t on Wednesday morning, October 29, 2014 at his residence. He was th
e husband of Darla (Witmer) Watkins to whom he was married to for near
ly 50 years. Jim was born on November 15, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland
, the son of the late Robert W. and Goldie Naomi (Wentz) Watkins. He w
as a graduate of Baltimore City College High School. He furthered hi
s education at Lycoming College where he received a Bachelor of Arts d
egree and he then graduated from Shippensburg University, with a Maste
s degree in Education.
He retired after 34 years from the West Shore School District, where h
e taught science, reading, and social studies. Jim was an active membe
of St. John (Barner's) Lutheran church for fifty years. He coached y
outh baseball and soccer.
Jim loved to be in the outdoors. He enjoyed swimming, hunting, and fis
hing. Jim also enjoyed tending to his home, garden, and orchard. He es
pecially loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his loving wife Darla, Jim is survived by his three chi
ldren, Michael A. Watkins and wife Tricia A. of Liverpool, Jennifer Ly
Watkins of Vienna, Va, and Jeffrey S. Watkins and wife Natalie M. o
f Darnestown, Md, four grandchildren, Courtney, Makaila, Owen, and Cel
ia, a sister-in-law, Judith Watkins of San Diego, Ca, and nieces and n
ephews.
Jim was preceded in death by a daughter Patricia Ann Watkins in infanc
y and a brother Robert Watkins.
There will be no viewing. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service wil
l be held on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 2 p.m. from The Lutheran Chur
ch of the Good Shepherd, 1000 N. Front St., Liverpool with a visitatio
and meal to follow the service. Officiating will be Rev. Nancy Knol
, his pastor and Rev. David A. Sensenig. Burial will be private at th
e discretion of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim may be made in suppor
t of Pancreatic Cancer Surgical Research Fund at Jefferson Universit
