Walter C. Barner Jr., 85, formally of 293 S. Jones St., Lock Haven, Cl
inton Co, PAssed away Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009 at the Jersey Shore Mano
Care where he had resided for the last eight years.
Walter was born in Lock Haven Dec. 10, 1923. He was the son of Walte
C. and Lyda Smith Barner Sr.
On June 26, 1949 he was united in marriage to Ilene M. Lesher, who pre
ceded him in death April 3, 2000.
Mr. Barner was a graduate of the Lock Haven High School in 1941 an
d a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II from 1
943 -46.
He had worked at the former Hammermill Paper Co. in Lock Haven as a pa
per machine supervisor, retiring in 1987 after 44 years of service.
He had been an active member of the Covenant United Methodist having s
erved as a trustee for over 50 years. Walter had also been a member o
f the Southern Clinton County Sportsman Club and enjoyed hunting and f
ishing. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Rosencrans and his fi
shing camp in Canada.
Survivors include a son, Stephen Eric (Molly) Barner of Tower City; th
ee daughters, Jane Ilene and her husband Randy Edwards of Renovo, Pat
icia Ann Hardy of Lock Haven, and Mary Lynn and her husband Jeff Raa
b of Avis; a sister, Betty J. Witt of Lock Haven; seven grandchildren
; three great-grandsons and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry W. and Richard L. Barn
er, and a sister Ruth Yost.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 at 11 a.m. i
the Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St. Lock Haven. Off
iciating will be Rev. Dr. Jonathan G. West of the church. Family and f
iends will be received in the church from 9 a.m. until the time of se
vices at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Interment will be in the Mt. Pleasant C
emetery, Rosencrans, at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers memorials will be accepted to the Covenant United M
ethodist Church through the funeral home.
