Frederick "Fritz" A. Zampogna, 96, of 314 Kearney St., Kane, passed aw
ay Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at his residence.
Born Sept. 25, 1915, in Westline, he was a son of the late Joseph an
d Theresa Costerella Zampogna.
On April 14, 1945, in Kane, he married Marjorie M. Bressler who surviv
es.
Fritz was a loving husband and father who enjoyed being around his fam
ily. He loved to cook, especially spaghetti and meat balls on Sundays
. Additionally, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening and can
ing and eating hot peppers.
As a self-employed carpenter, Fritz remodeled many homes in the Kane a
ea. He also built roll top desks, bread boxes and gun cabinets for hi
s family and friends. As an accomplished accordion player, he played i
his band the Mel-O-Tones for many years and after his retirement con
tinued to play at various nursing homes in the area.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Barbara J. McDe
mott and Debra A. (Barry "Mac") McQuillen of Kane; a son, James L. (M
aryclaire) Zampogna of Fulton, N. Y.; six grandchildren, James, Patric
k, Joshua, Edward, Renee and Jill; six great-grandchildren, Katelynn
, Madeline, Dominic, Geena, Trevor and Olivia; three sisters, Theres
a Zampogna and Donna (David) Mann of Erie and Angeline (John) McCandle
ss of Kane; a brother, Joseph (Janice) Zampogna of Clarence Center, N
. Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, J
osephine Manfrey and Mary Chiesa; and four brothers, Anthony "Tony" Za
mpogna, Harry Zampogna, Dominic Zampogna and Michael Zampogna.
Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. on Frida
y from 4-7 p.m. and again at the gathering space of St. Callistus Chur
ch on Saturday from 9-10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow a
t 10 a.m. with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski as celebrant. Burial will b
e at St. Callistus Cemetery.
