Centre Daily Times (State College, PA) - Sunday, October 26, 2003
Deceased Name: Sarah Catherine Homan
December 14, 1931 -- October 25, 2003
Sarah Catherine Homan, beloved wife, mom, grammy, sister, aunt and friend, entered the Kingdom of God on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003.
Born Dec. 14, 1931, in Barrville, she was a daughter of Flo Mae King Muthersbaugh, who survives as a resident at Salem Hill Haven, and the late Burns Claxton Albert Muthersbaugh.
Sarah was a farm wife and homemaker who devoted her life to her husband and family. Sarah and her husband, Evan Homan, who survives in Rebersburg, were married for 53 years. They operated a dairy farm together for 40 years, retiring in 1990.
Sarah was all about family and friends. She organized family gatherings for every special event or holiday. She was an extraordinary cook who loved decorating cakes and had made birthday and wedding cakes for many family members and friends over the years. Her hobbies included painting, ceramics, bowling, card club, knitting, traveling and camping. A special part of her life was the yearly vacation in Canada with family and friends.
Sarah was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, of Rebersburg, the Penns Valley Women's Club, Millheim Bowling League and Wings Camping Club. She also served on the FHA board of directors.
She was also very giving. Over the years, she opened her home to many international guests who were students at Penn State. But more important was the extended family relationship that developed through her participation in the Fresh Air program. These two children became more than visitors in Sarah's home; they became like a son and daughter who spent the entire summer with the Homans for many years and have maintained a close relationship to this day.
She is survived by her children, Ricky E. Homan, of Rebersburg, and his Roger; Joy E. Leitch, of Rebersburg, and her husband, Tim; Allen Gonzalez, of Miami, and his wife, Damaris; and Aida Gonzalez Lane, of Mount Vernon, N.Y., and her husband, Gerald.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Mae Homan.
She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Matthew and Melissa Homan; Natalie Myers Fetterolf and her husband, Corby; Robert and Erica Myers; Desiree, Evan and Sierra Leitch, Yaline and Eric Gonzalez; and Tony and Naomi Lane; and one great-grandchild, Micah Gabriel Fetterolf.
Surviving brothers and sisters include Willard Muthersbaugh and his wife, Bonnie; Donald Muthersbaugh and his wife, Nancy; Harry Muthersbaugh and his wife, Roxanna; Betty Smeltzer; Eugene Muthersbaugh and his wife, Elaine; and Carl Muthersbaugh and his wife, Judy.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Salem Lutheran Church in Aaronsburg.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Salem Lutheran Church in Aaronsburg, with the Rev. Karen Erskine-Valentine officiating.
Burial will be in the Lutheran-Reformed Cemetery in Centre Hall.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peters Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 164, Rebersburg, PA 16872 or to the American Heart Association.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home, 120 W. Main St., Millheim.
