Mahlon A. (Wayne) Barner October 31, 1927 April 9, 2015 Mahlon A. " Wa
yne" Barner, 87, of Mill Hall, died April 9, 2015, at the Geisinger Me
dical Center, Danville. He was born Oct. 31, 1927, in Mill Hall, the s
on of the late Harry B. and Vera Heeman Barner. On Dec. 6, 1947, he ma
ied the former Christine Murty who survives at home. Wayne retired i
1990 after 15 years from the Bellefonte School District where had be
en Supervisor of Maintenance. He had previously worked for Opalco Labo
atories in McKeesport. A 1945 graduate of the Hublersburg High School
, Mr. Barner was a WW II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy as S1C. He s
erved on the USS Detroit, the USS Gustafson and the USS Helios. For hi
s service, he was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Servic
e Star, the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. Wayne atten
ded the Clintondale United Methodist Church, Bellefonte Lodge # 26
8 F & AM and Centre Forest 129, Tall Cedars of Lebanon. In addition t
o his wife, he is survived by: one daughter, Kitty Jo Strouse, Mill Ha
ll; four grandchildren, Paula Dickey, Leslie Eisenhower, Guy (Angela
) Heckman and Wayne (Nichole) Heckman; nine great-grandchildren; fiv
e brothers, Clarence S. Barner, Houston, Texas, Harry M. (Bettie) Barn
er, Howard, Kenneth (Susan) Barner, Birmingham, Ala., Gerald Barner, Z
ion and Barry (Eileen) Barner, Howard; three sisters, Florence (Edwin
) Litz, DuBois, Barbara (John) Brouse, Bluffton, S.C. and Joyce (Mahlo
) Fetzer, Port Matilda. He was predeceased by one daughter, Carol Hec
kman on Dec. 17, 2014; and one brother, Robert Barner. Memorial servic
es will be held Monday, April 13, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. in the Lamar Unit
ed Methodist Church, Lamar, with Rev. Joan Gordon, his pastor officiat
ing. Interment will be in Hublersburg Cemetery. Friends will be receiv
ed in the church from 1:00 p.m. until time of services. Masonic memori
al services will be held at 1:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be ma
de to the Clintondale United Methodist Church, the Lock Haven Salvatio
