Frank A. Swinehart Jr., 77, of 632 McElhattan Dr., McElhattan passed a
way Feb. 12, 2011 in the Bon-Secours Hospital, Altoona of complication
s from pneumonia after a year long illness.
He was born in Lock Haven, August 10, 1933, the son of late Frank A. a
d Beulah Wolfe Swinehart Sr.
Frank was united in marriage to the former Mary Ann Casciani on Augus
t 29, 1959. She preceded him in death, June 21, 1995.
Frank was a 1951 graduate of the Lock Haven High School.
He worked for Talley Motor Co. after graduation. Frank returned to tea
ch small engine repair at the high school for a short time in Guy Dona
hue's absence.
In 1954 he entered the U.S. Army serving in Germany during the Korea
War until 1956.
Upon returning from the service, he had worked as a mechanic and final
ly the parts manager at the former Casselberry Motors in Lock Haven.
In 1963 he went to work at Piper Aircraft as a welder for many years a
d as a methods analyst until 1980.
He worked at Haven Homes in Beech Creek as a finish carpenter and reti
ed in 2001 from Lunair, Inc., in Williamsport.
Frank was an avid pilot, having learned to fly in 1962 and continuin
g to fly until 2009. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing in hi
s earlier years and dabbling in Lionel trains.
Frank was also a member of the McElhattan United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, Frank E. Swinehart of McElhattan; two sisters, Ru
by Eyer of Georgia and Betty Smith of Alabama and close companion an
d friend, Jean Watkins.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, i
the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St,, Lock Haven. Officiatin
g will be Pastor T. R. Hardic of the McElhattan United Methodist Churc
h. Interment will be in the Rest Haven Memorial Park with full militar
y honors.
Family and friends will be received in the funeral home, Wednesday fro
m 10 a.m. until time of services.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorials be made i
Frank's name to the Piper Aviation Museum through the funeral home.
