Richard K. Welshans, 86, of Jersey Shore, passed away Friday, May 2, 2
014, at The Gatehouse.
Born June 25, 1927, in Rauchtown, he was the son to the late Frank an
d Ida (Gamble) Welshans. He was preceded in death by his loving wife
, Readell F. (Sorgen) Welshans, on May 13, 2012; great-grandson, Jona
h Weidler; and six siblings, Merrill, Larry, Bill, and Bud Welshans, N
ancy Shadle, and Jane Buttorff.
Richard honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy. He served in ac
tive service from March 13, 1945 to Aug. 11, 1946, and was honored wit
h the European Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and the Victor
y Medal. Richard was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, and retire
d from Pullman Power after many years of service.
Surviving are three daughters, Janice I. (Ken) Karstetter, Connie L. W
elshans, and Pamela J. (Frank) Morse, all of Jersey Shore; a son, Ji
m R. (Linda) Welshans, of Jersey Shore; ten grandchildren, Zachary (Ja
mie) Weidler, Andrew (Alison) Morse, Benjamin (Courtney) Weidler, Aman
da and Katelyn Welshans, Tyler (Alison) Morse, Logan Welshans, and Ben
jamin (Emily), Andrew (Amy), and Emily Hockenberry; four great-grandch
ildren, Colton Weidler, Jackson Morse, and Brianna and Loressa Karstet
ter; four brothers, Barry, Paul, Stanley, and Lewis Welshans; and tw
o sisters, Sharon Lamey and Mavis Rauch.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Freder
ick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, with Pasto
Gary Shumway officiating. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. until th
e time of service Thursday at Welker Funeral Home. Burial will be in J
ersey Shore Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Jerse
y Shore Honor Guard.
