, beloved mother, grandmother, teacher and friend, passed from this li
fe on Sunday, September 28, 2014, at Valley View Haven in Belleville
. She was 89. Born on July 30, 1925, in Tylersville, Emma was a daught
er of the late George and Adelia (Heckman) Kerstetter. On December 27
, 1949, she was united in marriage to Thomas Rathmell Henderson, who p
eceded her in death on December 26, 1997. Upon graduation from Suga
Valley High School, Emma went on to attend Lock Haven State Teacher'
s College where she attained her Bachelor's Degree. She then enrolle
d at Penn State University and achieved her Master's Degree in educati
on with an emphasis in reading. She was employed for 31 years in the P
enns Valley Area School District as a first grade teacher, beginning a
t the Coburn Elementary School and ending at the Spring Mills Elementa
y School. Emma was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Millhei
m where she was active in the choir. She was actively involved in th
e community, participating in a local community choir, at a senior cit
izen center and with the Girl Scouts. Emma served as a past presiden
t of the PA Federation of Republican Women. She was a member of the Ce
tre Hall Chapter of The Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening, canning
, and baking. She was an avid coffee drinker and loved to eat. Emma en
joyed vacationing at the beach, and loved her pets and her grand dog
s and cats. However, Emma's greatest love was her grandchildren and fa
mily. Emma is survived by two daughters, Barbara H. Cole (Chris), of S
pring Mills and Maureen L. Ivanco (Ted), of Roanoke, Va.; one son, Dav
id T. Henderson (Jana), of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Betty Barner (H
arry), of Lamar; and one brother, Dan Kerstetter (Eileen), of Tylersvi
lle. Also surviving are six grandchildren, John T. Cole (Maggie), Timo
thy M. Cole (Ryan), Melissa A. Ivanco (Sean), Teddy Ivanco, Jonny Ivan
co and Merchent Henderson. In addition to her husband, she was precede
d in death by siblings, George Kerstetter, Kay Doughty and Geraldine M
ingle. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, O
ctober 2, 2014, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Hom
e in Millheim. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Fr
iday at 11:00 a.m. Emma will be laid to rest in Cedar Hill Cemetery, #
028 at Mill Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Emm
a may be given to Valley View Haven, 4702 E. Main Street, Belleville
