, beloved wife of Terry S. Brungart Sr., of Livonia, passed from thi
s life on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014. She was 77 years of age. Born on Nov
. 5, 1936, in Greenburr in beautiful Sugar Valley, Joann was a daughte
of the late Roy and Florence Slegle Douty. She was a 1954 graduate o
f Sugar Valley High School. She and Terry were married on July 4, 1959
, in the Greenburr United Church of Christ. Joann held various positio
s of employment throughout her lifetime including the Harvey Lamey St
ore in Greenburr, Loganton Lunch, Sylvania Electric in Mill Hall, wher
e she worked as an Engineering Aide, Lerner's Dept. Store and Hardee'
s Restaurant. The most important job to Joann though was raising and t
aking care of her family. Her motto in life was "do the right thing an
d live up to your responsibilities" and she lived it daily. In additio
to her husband Terry, Joann is survived by two sons, Terry S. Brunga
t, Jr. (Mary Kay) of Rebersburg and Timothy R. Brungart of Livonia; o
e daughter, Michele L. Hughes (Martin) of Mechanicsburg; three grandc
hildren, Timothy R. Brungart, Jr., Nicole R. Brungart and Katelyn F. H
ughes; and two great-grandchildren, Nina A. Eyer and Layla Blair Brung
art. Also surviving are two sisters, Vivian Gentzel of Bull Run and In
ez Leitch (Will) of Greenburr, and one brother, Bruce Douty (Gail) o
f Ebensburg. Joann was preceded in death by her brother Dallas Douty
. Joann was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Rebersburg. Sh
e enjoyed tole painting and painting pictures of the scenic countrysid
e. Joann was an excellent seamstress, making clothing and ladies' gown
s. She was a great cook and made the world's best apple pie. Perhaps h
er greatest love was quilting. She made over 300 quilts in her lifetim
e, one of which won the Governor's Award after it was displayed for th
ee months in the Governor's Mansion in Harrisburg in 1984. A Celebrat
ion of Life service is being planned and will be announced at a late
