Westview Cemetery became the primary burial place for Atlanta citizens when historic Oakland Cemetery sold it's last burial plots in the late 1880s.

1864 Battle of Ezra Church took place. It is located on the area where Confederates rushed up to charge the center of the Union line. The solitary grave of Lt. Edward Clingman, killed at Ezra Church, is marked with engravings of a saber, pistol and Confederate flag, and is located along the eastern outer drive. Behind the grave is a section of Confederate trenches. A monument for the battle is located within the cemetery. The present day cemetery gatehouse and office is located on part of the Confederate battleline.
