Barner, Leroy Elwood
Age 88, passed away August 4, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. H
e was born May 30, 1922 in PA to Stanley Cyrus Barner and Lillian Ma
e (Sheaffer) Barner. He earned an engineering degree at University o
f Pittsburgh. In World War II he was in an OSS unit when he met his wi
fe to be, Vicky Dakat-quick Morgan (Trimble). After both were discharg
ed at the end of the war, they married September 8, 1945 in Cleveland
, OH. Leroy continued in the Army Reserves and retired as a Colonel. H
e worked as a design engineer at Republic Steel, Bendix, Conductron an
d Chrysler. He enjoyed doing geneological research and was active in t
he Barner Reunion committees. He traveled to Germany a few times looki
g for German Barner family. He attended the 50th anniversary of D-Da
y meeting with several surviving French Underground acquaintances. H
e partici-pated in bowling leagues, deer hunting, talking to everyone
. He considered the local Big Boy his own private club. He was precede
d in death by his parents; his brother, Warren Barner; his daughter, S
usan Adele Barner Morseau; and his wife, Vicky Barner. He is survive
d by his sister, Maxine Grandon; his brother, Stanley C. Barner, Jr; h
is children, Joyce Barner Tinkham and Glenn Lee Barner; his grandchild
en, Ian Barner Tinkham, Amanda Lee Tink-ham,Amy Jo Morseau (James Tho
mas), Katy Morseau (John Rader) and Matthew Wayne Morseau; and great-g
andchildren, Dejonay Biles, Kane LeAndrew Tinkham, N'Donis Benei Thom
as, Evan William Tinkham, Nozhewen Dash Rader, Lilly Victoria Thomas,J
ohn Anthony Rader, and George Wayne Thomas. There will be a memorial s
ervice next June at the Barner Church in Liverpool, Perry Co, PA, duri
g the annual Barner reunion. His ashes will be interred in the Barner
's (Saint John's) Lutheran Church Cemetery. If you wish to make a dona
tion in his honor, Leroy liked to donate to the Detroit PBS station, W
TVS member services, 1 Clover Ct., Wixom, MI, 48393. We all miss you
