Alfred L. Hauser Sr., 73, of Jersey Shore, died Nov. 5, 2004 at home
, surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer
. Born Feb. 26, 1931 in Collomsville, he was the son of the late Henr
y Sr. and Lydia Kreitz Hauser. Al and his wife Henrietta Speary celebr
ated their 54th wedding anniversary on April 4, 2004. Al was a graduat
e of the 1949 class of Jersey Shore Area High School and in his senio
year, he was captain of the football team. He enjoyed attending ever
y class reunion. He also attended Williamsport Technical Institute, Ly
coming College, Lock Haven State University and received his B.S. fro
m Elizabethtown College in 1977 in vocational education. He received h
is masters equivalency from Pennsylvania State University in 1980. A
l retired from the Pennsylvania College of Technology in 1992 after 2
9 years as a faculty member and administrator, including assistant pro
fessor and coordinator of the vocational education program, assistan
t dean of vocational education and assistant professor of machine too
l technology. He contributed significantly in the development and lead
ership of the secondary program and was instrumental in the developmen
t of the current Advanced Technology Center and world class Automate
d Manufacturing Laboratory in 1985. One of Al's proudest moments was w
hen he received the Excellence in Teaching Award from Penn College i
1989. Al served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Wa
from 1951 through 1955 in the Strategic Air Command, Hunter Air Forc
e Base, Savannah, Ga. Prior to Al's cancer diagnosis, he was blessed w
ith good health and enjoyed many years of retirement. He and his wif
e Hensy enjoyed traveling with friends and family, including trips t
o Hawaii, the Panama Canal and RV-ing throughout the United States. Th
ey enjoyed their winters on Sunshine Key, Fla., with many friends the
y met throughout the United States and Canada. While in the Keys, Al e
joyed golfing, fishing, bike riding, competing in horseshoe tournamen
ts, happy hours and fish fries. Al was a member of the Trinity Unite
d Methodist Church, Jersey Shore, LaBelle Masonic Lodge and the Korea
War Veterans Association. Surviving are his wife, Henrietta (Hensy
) Hauser; three sons, Alfred L. (Joan) Hauser Jr. of Jersey Shore, Dr
. David (Carol) Hauser of Toledo, OH and Kenneth Hauser of Jackson, Mi
ss.; one daughter, Gail H. (David) Bair of Williamsport; three brother
s, Henry Hauser Jr. of Antes Fort, Melvin (Bud) Hauser of English Cent
er and Fred Hauser of Linden; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchil
dren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Hauser in 1991. Fu
eral services will be held privately at his family's convenience fro
m the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, 'A Life Celebration Home,' Jerse
y Shore. Interment will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery. Al's public memor
ial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004 from the T
inity United Methodist Church, 1407 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, wit
h his pastor, Rev. Richard B. Cartwright, officiating, assisted by Rev
. Charles P. Johnson. Immediately following the memorial service, al
l are invited to a 'Life Celebration' reception and luncheon to be hel
d in Trinity's Social Hall. His family will provide flowers and sugges
