John R. Barner, 88, formerly of Fulmers Personal Care Home in Lock Hav
en, died Friday, May 2, 2008, in the Gatehouse at Divine Providence Ho
spital in Williamsport.
Born May 3, 1919, in Limestone Twp, he was the son of Guy F. Barner an
d the former Myrtle Epler. His wife, the former Jeanne E. Laubach, pre
ceded John in death February 25, 2003; they were united in marriage Ap
il 12, 1976. He was retired from Bethlehem Steel Co, after 40 years o
f service. During WW II, John served in the United States Army with th
e Company D 334th Engineers.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Mary L. Huling of Jersey Shore, 17 ste
p grandchildren, several step great grandchildren and several step gre
at great grandchildren, one brother, William Barner of Williamsport an
d one sister, Margaret J. Reading of Jersey Shore.
He was preceded in death by three stepdaughters, Marlene H. Reiber, Ja
et M. Stroud, and Shirley P. Green, two sisters, Lois Karstetter an
d Marie Eck and one brother, Harry Barner.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Frede
ick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Friends ma
y call from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services in the funera
l home. Burial will be in the Oval Cemetery. The Rev. Jeffrey Howell w
ill officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be mad
e in his name to the Gatehouse at the Divine Providence Hospital, 11

ence Hospital in Williamsport.
Born May 3, 1919, in Limestone Twp, he was a son of Guy F. Barner an

John was retired from Bethlehem Steel Co. after 40 years of service.
