BARNER ALDONNA T. "DONNA" (SIMON)
On Friday, June 5, 2015, Aldonna T. "Donna" (Simon) Barner, age 82, o
f South Park, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family
. Beloved wife of the late Earl M. Barner; loving mother of Susan M. M
cCartan of Finleyville, James M. (Denise) Barner of Finleyville and Li
sa (Ron) Barner-Wolk of Bridgeville; grandmother of Jeffrey, Jessica
, Jacqlyn, Molly and the late Jennifer Brennfleck; great-grandmother o
f Angie, Bryan and Aiyana; sister of Geri (Cliff) Todd and the late Ma
garet (Tom) Brickett; also survived by nieces,nephews and great- gran
dchildren. Donna (lovingly called Gram, Grammy, Mom, Mum, Mrs. B, an
d "little Go-Bunny") lived every day with passion, zest and energy. Sh
e was a pillar of strength and principle with deep and boundless lov
e for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildre
"the apples of my eye" and her family pets (Pia the devil cat, Thump
er the Boxer and Willow the Pug). Donna loved spending countless hour
s gardening in her "no maintenance" beautiful yard, vacationing, spend
ing time in the Laurel Mountains at the family cabin, daily visits t
o her local Dollar store, actively participating in the St. Casimir'
s Alumni Association and the occasional pull on the slot machine arm
. After the loss of her beloved husband, Earl, in 1995, Donna fought o
and found new purpose at the Franciscan Child Day Care Center in Cas
tle Shannon (from which she just recently retired), where she nurtured
, cared for and fell in love with all of the beautiful children unde
her watch. She touched ours and many other lives, and for that we ar
e deeply blessed and grateful. Friends received Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m
. at the GRIFFITH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 5636 Brownsville Road, South Par
k Twp. (412) 655-4600. Funeral Prayer Tuesday 11:30 a.m. with a Mass o
f Christian Burial in Nativity Church at 12 p.m., followed by burial i
National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. In lieu of flowers, the famil
y requests donations in Donna's name to ALS Association, Western PA Ch
apter, 416 Lincoln Ave., Pgh., PA 15209 or Forbes Hospice c/o Forbes H
