Elizabeth A. Springer was crowned 2009 Valentine Queen of Xi Epsilon Sigma chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority by the 2008 queen, Barbara W. Powlus.
McELHATTAN - Elizabeth A. Springer was crowned 2009 Valentine queen of Xi Epsilon Sigma chapter of Beta sigma Phi sorority.
The coronation ceremony was held following the chapter's Christmas dinner party in the Library Room of Madison Restaurant.
XES's 2008 Valentine Queen Barbara W. Powlus abbreviated her reign in order to accommodate her successor's departure to sunny Florida early in January.
Following the ceremony, Liz was presented with an array of gifts and well wishes befitting a queen.
On Feb. 9, Liz was feted in absentia at a Valentine dinner party at Perkin's Restaurant in Mill Hall. The party concluded with a cell phone call to Liz in Florida.
Married to her high school sweetheart, Ian "Mert" Springer, Liz is the mother of five children who have blessed her with five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Over the years, Liz worked outside the home with various local businesses. Now retired 14 years, she and her husband "migrate" to Florida each winter. Being seasoned "snowbirds" they consider Florida to be their second home, as do their offspring who frequently manage to pop in for a visit over the winter months.
Whether wintering in the Sunshine state, at home in this area of retreating to their rustic cabin, Liz's first love is visiting with and entertaining family and friends.
Her second passion is providing avid fan support to the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Liz is the newest member of Xi Epsilon Sigma, attending her first meeting in September 2007.
