    LINCOLN - Dennis E. Barner, 74, of Stapleton died Friday, Oct. 8, 2002
    4, at the Heart Hospital in Lincoln.
    Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church i
    Stapleton. Burial will be at Loup Valley Cemetery.
    He was born Jan. 22,1930, in Hershey to Elmer and Florence (Stalnaker
    ) Barner.
    On May 25, 1952, he married Rose Hunn in North Platte.
    Survivors include his wife; sons, Dervin of Kearney, Bill of Mullen an
    d Jim of Casper, Wyo.; daughters, Lyndel Johnson of Stapleton and Ann
    e Little of Kearney; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
    Additional survivors include daughters-in-law, Jona of Kearney, Donale
    e of Mullen and Kim of Casper; sons-in-law, Tom Johnson of Stapleton a
    d Tony Little of Kearney; and father-in-law, the Rev. B.D. Hunn of No
    th Platte.
    He will be missed by friends and relatives too numerous to mention.

    Oct. 8, 2004, at the Nebraska Heart Hospital in Lincoln.
    He was born Jan. 22, 1930, at Hershey to Elmer and Florence
    Stalnaker Barner. Orphaned at the age of 5, Denny lived with
    aunts and uncles and attended grade school in several schools.
    On May 25, 1952, he married Rose Marie Hunn in North Platte.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maudeen; a
    brother-in-law, Karl Hunn; and two sisters-in-law, Lois Hunn and Rut
    h Miller.
    Services at the First Presbyterian Church in Stapleton. Burial in Lou
    p Valley Cemetery.
    Adams and Swanson Funeral Home of North Platte in charge of arrangemen

    STAPLETON - Dennis Elmer Barner, 74, of Stapleton died Oct. 8, 2004, a
    t the Nebraska Heart Hospital in Lincoln.

    He was born Jan. 22, 1930, at Hershey to Elmer and Florence Stalnake
    Barner. Orphaned at the age of 5, Denny lived with aunts and uncle
    s and attended grade school in several schools. He lived with Charle
    s and Esther Stalnaker for four years and graduated from Marquette Hig
    h School in 1947. After graduation, he was employed by B.C. Huffman. W
    hile working at the Huffman ranch, he enjoyed hunting for arrowheads
    . On one of these expeditions, he discovered an Indian burial site tha
    t predated the Woodland Culture Group and was at least 1,000 years old
    . The entire discovery, including 10 skeletons and various artifacts w
    as loaned to the Nebraska Historical Society for study.

    On May 25, 1952, he married Rose Marie Hunn in North Platte. They move
    d to Lena, where he was a mail carrier from Lena to Tryon. He then wen
    t to work for Dewayne and Emma Melvin of Lena. Dennis worked for Max a
    d Lorene Rothwell on the ranch south of Whitman for nine years.

    In 1964, Dennis and Rose moved to Stapleton where he worked for A an
    d A service. In 1967, Denny and Rose purchased Beckius Grocery in Stap
    leton and it became Denny's Market, which they operated until 1999, a
    t which time they retired.

    Mr. Barner was a member of the Stapleton Village Board for 16 years an
    d was mayor for many of those years. He also served on the Stapleton F
    ire Department as both a fireman and emergency medical technician. I
    1990, he was given a 20-year service award by the department. He ser
    ved on the fair board as director, secretary and treasurer and was als
    o a member of the chamber of commerce. Denny coached girl's softball t
    eams where they finished runner-up in the North Platte League for tw
    o consecutive years. In 1992, the Stapleton High School yearbook was d
    edicated to him. Denny had a variety of interests and hobbies.

    Mr. Barner's favorite pastime was fishing and he was an avid bird watc
    her. He was known for his elaborate Christmas-light displays and his c
    ollection of more than 500 caps, which he displayed in his store.

    Survivors include his wife Rose of Stapleton; two daughters, Lyndel (T
    om) Johnson of Stapleton and Anne (Tony) Little of Kearney; three sons
    , Dervin (Jona) Barner of Kearney, Bill (Donalee) Barner of Mullen, an
    d Jim (Kim) Barner of Casper, Wyo.; a sister, Shirley (LeRoy) Pope o
    f Riverside, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, Chad (Aimme) Barner and Larist
    a Barner, Trevor and Cami Barner, Garrett (Heather) Johnson, Dawn (Jas
    on) Beers, Lyndsi (Tony) Romero, Nolan, Lana and Rylan Little and Taus
    ha (Jeremiah) Willard, Danielle and Ryan Barner; six great-grandchildr
    en; father-in-law, the Rev. B.D. Hunn of North Platte; brother-in-law
    , Paul (Karen) Hunn of Tryon; and sister-in-law, Shirley Miller of Arv
    ada, Colo. Denny, a friend to all, will also be missed by a host of fr
    iends and relatives too numerous to mention.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maudeen; a brother-
    in-law, Karl Hunn; and two sisters-in-law, Lois Hunn and Ruth Miller.

    A memorial has been established.

    Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Churc
    h in Stapleton with the Rev. Bob Anderson officiating. Burial will b
    e in Loup Valley Cemetery.

    Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Adams and Swanso
    Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at t
    he First Presbyterian Church.

    Adams & Swanson Funeral Home of North Platte is in charge.

    St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte was the location of th
    e Aug. 10, 2013, wedding of Cami Lee Barner and Edmond Gerard O’Brien
    . Fathers Jim Golka and Don O’Brien officiated at the service. Cami wa
    s given in marriage by her father, Bill Barner.

    Parents of the couple are Bill and Donalee Barner, of Mullen, and Denn
    is O’Brien and Carolyn O’Brien, both of North Platte.

    Cami is a 2008 graduate of the University of Nebraska at Kearney and E
    dmond is a 2005 graduate of St. Patrick’s Catholic High School.

    Maid of honor for Cami was Katie McCarthy, of North Platte. Bridesmaid
    s were Vicki Kramer, of Omaha, Tina Bilau, of San Diego, Calif., Baile
    y O’Brien, Kayla Star and Ann Maassen, all of North Platte. Shayda an
    d Ali Vaughn were flower girls for Cami.

    Best man for Edmond was Taylor Steger, of North Platte. Groomsmen wer
    e Dusty Ward and Ryan Foreman, both of Omaha, Trevor Barner, of Lusk
    , Wyo., Tad Mathers and Jason Star, both of North Platte. Brigham Call
    ahan was the ring bearer.

    Ushers for Cami and Edmond were Josh Wilken, Zach Barger, David Kraye
    , Jake Huebner, Jesse Huddle and Rob Star.

    A reception followed at the Quality Inn and Suites.

    Cami and Edmond are at home in North Platte.
