Ruth Evelyn Barner Boyles, 61, of Cogan Station, died Sunday, July 10
, 2016, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center. Surviving is he
husband of 43 years, Dennis W. Boyles.
Born May 8, 1955, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Dal
e V. and Martha A. (Stroup) Barner Sr., of Rauchtown. She grew up prim
arily in the Washington, DC suburbs and graduated from Suitland High S
chool, Suitland, Md. After raising her young children, she began a car
eer that lasted 26 years with Prince George’s County Public Schools a
s an executive secretary. In 1993, she was awarded the distinction o
f Outstanding Supporting Personnel Employee of the Year for the schoo
l system.
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Rauchtown. Ruth enjoye
d cooking, reading, picnicking, crocheting and traveling anywhere, bu
t especially to Chincoteague Island, Va., and Moosehead Lake, Maine. M
ost of all, Ruth loved having fun with her family.
Surviving in addition to her husband is a brother, Dale V. Barner Jr
. (Deborah), of Williamsport; four children, Jennifer Denise Boyles-Ke
llner (Joseph, Jr.), of North Beach, Md., Christopher Dean Boyles, o
f Cogan Station, Senior Chief Richard William Boyles (Cheryl), of Ches
apeake, Va., and Andrew Vernon Boyles (Theresa), of Fredericksburg, Va
.; nine grandchildren, Specialist Joseph Kellner, Private First Clas
s Anthony Kellner, Olivia Hooe, Jaimie Hooe, Joshua Boyles, Bailey Boy
les, and Robert Boyles, Nathan Malashevich, and Blake Boyles.
A funeral service to honor the life of Ruth will be held 10 a.m. Thurs
day, July 14 at St. James Lutheran Church, Rauchtown, 3242 Middle Road
, Jersey Shore, with the Rev. Dr. Kerry R. Aucker officiating. Buria
l will follow in Oval Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 13 at Knight-C
onfer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport.
