"Tribute to Major Allan J. Stearns
Major Allan J. Stearns wasa graduate of St. Louis University. He served his country as an Air Force pilot in World War II, and in Vietnam. On July 20, 1967, his plane was shot down near Plieku, South Vietnam by enemy ground fire. Allan and his crew of five were killed in the crash of the plane. He was buried at Gruver, Texas beside the grave of his first wife, Vera Jean.
Among the medals awared to Major Stearns were: The Distinguished Flying Cross, the Presidential Citation Award, the Air Medal, the Purple Heart, and medals from the government of South Vietnam. "
