    He was born in East Springfield on Oct. 29, 1921, son of the late Roy and Edith Schaumacher Gere.
    Mr. Gere worked for Union Iron Works (Riley Stoker Co.) for 40 years. He was a life member of the Lake City Fire Company and First Presbyterian Church of Lake City.
    He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Howard Gere; four sisters, Louis Gere, Naomi Ruth Lewis, Elizabeth Kusma and Ester Gere.
    Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Eleanor Pesta Gere; two sons, Charles Gere of Lake City and Martin Gere and his wife, Suzi, of Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Elaine Ross of Conneautville, Crawford County; a sister, Luella Kusma of Albion; four grandhildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Friends may call at Robert A. Jaworowicz Funeral Home, 309 Main Street East, Girard, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held there Monday at 10 a.m.
    Burial will be at Springfield Cemetery.
    Memorials may be made to the Lake City Fire Colmpany, 2232 Rice Ave. or First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 210, Lake City, Pa 16423.
