Ellery was the son of Charles E. Ohnmeiss and Susan E. Wren. Coroner S
chneider Conducting Inquest to Determine Reason for Young Man's Deat
h Following Visit to Dental Parlors. An inquest to determine what caus
ed the death of Ellery E. Ohnmeiss, of 1108 Charles street, will be co
ducted at the city hall council chamber, this afternoon at 2:30 o'clo
ck, by Dr. George L. Schneider, the coroner. Members of the family mad
e complaint to the coroner relative to Mr. Ohnmeiss' death and the cou
ty official made a report of the incidents leading up to the man's de
ath to the city police and district attorney today. Mr. Ohnmeiss wen
t to the dental offices of Dr. Shor at 115 W Third street, on Tuesda
y afternoon of last week, in good health, according to his family, an
d had the teeth of his lower jaw extracted. Relatives informed the cor
oner that an anesthetic was administered to Mr. Ohnmeiss several time
s during the afternoon. He went home and became very ill and died on W
ednesday evening, about 5:30 o'clock. The complaint was made to the co
oner by a brother and cousin of the deceased. Dr. Fred Weddingen perf
ormed the autopsy yesterday and reported today that his examination sh
owed that death was caused from hypostatic pneumonia. All members of t
he staff of the Shor dental parlors here have been subpoenaed for th
e inquest.

Later newpaper articles revealed the verdict: "We find, firstly, tha
t Ellery Ohnmeiss died of inspiration pneumonia following nitrous oxid
e and oxygen anaesthesia for extraction of teeth. Secondly, we find th
at the lungs were filled with clotted blood, which blood, we believe
, entered the lungs during the patient's unconscious condition. Thirdl
y, the patient was not unconscious from the time he left the dental of
fice until his death." His wife later married a Hoover and is also bur
ied in Wildwood Cemetery.

Born Dec. 13, 1926, in the Newberry section of Williamsport, she was t
he daughter of Robert and Margaret (Murnane) Ohnmeiss.
She graduated from the Williamsport High School, class of 1946. She i
s retired from the Williamsport Nursing Home as a nurse's aide. She al
so worked as a personal caregiver for several families in the Williams
port area.
Marguerite was a founding member and ardent volunteer for St. Joseph t
he Worker Parish bingo, which celebrates its 40th year this April.
In 1952, she married James G. Norris Sr., of Williamsport. Together th
ey celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary on December 27th.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by six sons and three daug
hters: Anastasia Toner, of Loyalsock, James Jr. (Linda), of Randolph
, New Jersey, Christopher (Sueanne), of Williamsport, Donald (Lori), o
f Shreveport, La., Cornelius (Kendra), of Scottsdale, Ariz., Margare
t (Kirk) Osborne, of Rockford, Ill., Daniel (Beth), of Duncansville, P
a., Michael (Flor), of Wake Forest, N.C., and Judith (Jonathan) Helms
, of Charlotte, N.C. There are 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchil

She was preceded in death by a son, Brian; her parents; six brothers

e Army. Upon retirement he was employed by the U.S. Department of Agri
culture as a special investigator and was stationed in New York City

ed away in 1983. Surviving are three of their four children, Karen (Oh
meiss) Wolfe of Plainfield, New Jersey, Robert Ohnmeiss of Caldwell
, N.J., and Paul Ohnmeiss of Plainfield, New Jersey. Joe was predeceas
ed by a son, Michael Ohnmeiss. Also surviving are five grandchildren a
d two sisters, Marguerite (Ohnmeiss) Norris of Williamsport and Lucil
le (Ohnmeiss) Hudson of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
He is survived by a second wife, the former Estelle Duran of Staten Is
land, New York, four stepchildren and five step grandchildren. As an a
thlete, Joe excelled in golf and baseball. He was a low handicap golfe
. He was a starting pitcher on the U.S. Army baseball team in Japan a
d pitched against many of the major league teams visiting Japan for e
xhibition games during their off-season. He died at a Special Care Nur
sing Facility in Staten Island, New York. Funeral services were held a
t the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Staten Island and intermen
t was at the church cemetery. Joe was a good husband, father, soldie
and friend. He will be missed.

Longtime Lampasas City Councilman E.E. "Junior" Ohnmeiss, 77, died Nov
ember 10, 2003 at Rollins Brook Community
Hospital. Funeral services were Nov. 13 at Dodson Funeral Home Chape
l with Minister Reid Schaub officiating. Burial
followed at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery near Evant.
Mr. Ohnmeiss was born April 5, 1926, in Williamsport, Pa., to Ellery a
d Susan Florey Ohnmeiss. When he was 6 years old,
Mr. Ohnmeiss was sent to Girard College in Philadelphia, and he gradua
ted from there in 1943. Mr. Ohnmeiss then attended
Penn State University for one year and was called to Army duty durin
g World War II. He earned battle stars for service in
France and Germany. After VE Day, Mr. Ohnmeiss and his unit were sen
t to North Camp Hood to train for assignments in the
Pacific. He was there when the war ended.
He married Mavis Renken on February 17, 1946, in Hamilton [Texas]. Mr
. Ohnmeiss had lived in Lampasas since 1954. He
served as acting mayor for one year. He then re-entered the politica
l arena in 1992, when he again was elected to the council.
After he resigned his seat in 1998, he was named "Honorary Councilma
for Life" by the city. He had worked at Wieser Feed
Mill and Evergreen Feed Mill for a combined 44 years until his retirem
ent in April 1991. Mr. Ohnmeiss was a member of the
Lions Club and AMVETS Post 80, where he served as provost marshal.
In March 1999, a portion of U.S. Highway 190 was renamed E.E. J. Ohnme
iss Drive in his honor.
Mr. Ohnmeiss is survived by his wife of Lampasas; two daughters, Mar
y Atherton, and husband, Woody, of Gatesville, and Dr. Donna Ohnmeiss
, of Plano; a son, John Ohnmeiss, and wife Elizabeth, of Lampasas; gra
dchildren, Celia and Joel Wayne Sellers; and great-grandchildren, Che
yenne and Wyatt Sellers, of Jonesboro.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Ohnmeiss, and by two bro
thers and a sister. The family requested that memorials be made to th

Berdell is survived by his wife, Marian W. of 70 years; children, Berd

Ninabelle “Nina” Houseknecht, of Williamsport, passed away Thursday, J
une 22, 2017, at Rose View Center. She was preceded in death by her hu
sband, Warren C. Houseknecht Sr. in 1972.
She was a daughter of the late Clyde and Helen (Moon) Ohnmeiss.

Nina was a graduate of Williamsport High School. She worked for the fo
mer GTE Sylvania, Carry McFalls, Leader Nursing Center and retired fr
om Happy Wash Laundry.

She loved to cook, bake, knit and sew. She enjoyed going to Mohegan Su
Casino and playing the slot machines. She also enjoyed scratch off l
ottery tickets that she called “scratchies!”

Surviving are two sons, Wayne C. Houseknecht Sr. (Beverly), of William
sport and Max R. Houseknecht (Angie), of South Williamsport; a daughte
, Donna M. Fry, of Trout Run; ten grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildre
; 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Vivian Bastian, of New York

. 23, 2004, at the Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville. His wif
e of 53 years, Nellie Wright Ohnmeiss, passed away in 1997. Born Febru
ary 22, 1922, in Williamsport, he was a son of Ray and Hilda Calvert O
hnmeiss. Ray was employed for 37 years at the former Syntex Fabric, In
c., and retired from the Williamsport Area School District in 1985. H
e attended Williamsport schools. Ray was a WWII Army Air Corps Vetera
serving with the 306th Air Drome Squadron of the Fifth Air Force i
the Pacific Theatre. Ray is survived by a daughter, Sherry (Carl) Pf
irman of Williamsport; a son, Steven (Penny) Ohnmeiss of Montoursville

According to his sister, he died quietly at 4:00 AM on a Friday mornin
g at his home in Montoursville. A hospice nurse attended. He resided a
t Kehrer Hill Road, Montoursville. He and his wife, the former Ruth E
. Remsnyder, celebrated 37 years of marriage July 22, 2004. He was a s
on of Raymond and Hilda Marie (Calvert) Ohnmeiss. He was named after h
is Uncle Elwood Calvert. He retired in 1989 from the Williamsport Are
a School District after 43 years in the maintenance department. Elwoo
d was a member of Heilman United Methodist Church, White Deer Golf Cou
se and the Retirees League of White Deer.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sisters, Beverly Fike of W
illiamsport, Donnalee Emerick of Avis, and Marlene Person of Cogan Sta
tion, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by fou
brothers, Ray, Dean, Cameron, and Maynard Ohnmeiss, and a sister, Jo
yce Ohnmeiss. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at San

Cameron was the son of Raymond Franklin Ohnmeiss and Hilda Marie Calve
t. He attended Curtin Junior High School and Williamsport High School
, Lycoming county, Pennsylvania. In 1951 he enlisted in the US Army an
d participated in the Korean War. He was later stationed at Aberdeen P
oving Ground, Harford county, Maryland. And then in the Summer of 196
4, at the age of 31, Cameron, his wife and 3 sons arrived at Fort Huac
huca, Cochise county, Arizona. They moved into a small, 1-story, 3 be
d room, concrete-block, house at 105 Nickles Avenue. In December 196
6 his daughter was born at Raymond W. Bliss Army Hospital. Cameron wa
s Chief Instructor Supervisor of the Airborne Sensors Department, Comb
at Surveillance School. While at Fort Huachuca he rented several garde
plots at the army post and grew vegetables. Besides gardening, campi
g was one of his hobbies. He retired from the US Army in July 1970, a
s a Sergeant Major (E9), after 20 years service. During his military c
areer, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Servic
e Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge and the Meritoriou
s Service Medal. After retirement, he returned to his hometown of Will
iamsport. In 1973, he returned to Arizona and resided in Sierra Vista
. Cameron later worked as a civil service employee at Davis Monthan Ai
Force base in Tucson, Arizona. He also owned a landscaping busines
s and a mobile home repair company in Sierra Vista. During the latte
part of his life he did a little farming in Hereford, Arizona. He di
ed in his sleep early in the morning. The cause of death was classifie
d as: cardiac arrest. Flu was a contributing factor. He was 61 years

Mrs. Donnaleee Emerick, 79, a former longtime resident of Williamsport
, died Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at her home in Slippery Rock.

Mrs. Emerick worked at the former CA Reeds, former American crepe an
d retired at the age of 72 at unique Ind.

Born March 7, 1938, in Williamsport, daughter of the late Raymond an
d Hilda Calvert Ohnmeiss.

Mrs. Emerick loved cooking, playing cards, dancing, and most of all sp
ending time with her family.

Donnalee and John were united in marriage on Aug. 3, 1957, together th
ey observed 46 years of marriage.

Surviving are two daughters, Rhonda (Craig) Mchattie, of Slippery Rock
, and Beverly (Gary) Markley, of Montoursville; three sons, Tommy (Mar
y) Emerick, of Williamsport, John E. (Constance) Emerick, of Williamsp
ort, and Marty (Deborah) Emerick, of Kreamer; one sister, Marlene (Rob
ert) Person, of South Williamsport; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandch
ildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded by her husband Joh
W. Emerick, her son Randy Lee Emerick, two sisters and five brothers
.

A private service was held in Butler on July 7 for her children. Ther

Earl Ohnmeiss was an only child of Paul John (aka Jonathan) Ohnmeiss a
d Kathryn (Miller) Ohnmeiss. After Earl's mother died, his father mar
ied Frida Campbell. It is reported that Earl did not fit in with th
e new stepmother and came to live with John Henry "Jack" Ohnmeiss an
d Jack's mother, Susan (Senn) Ohnmeiss for a period of time. Earl wa
s living at 1525 Franklin Street when he died Thursday at home. His ag
e was 65 years, 8 months, 14 days. He and his wife, the former Doris J
. Sechler, observed their 46th wedding anniversary August 19th. He wa
s manager of Ohnmeiss Apartments. He was employed by Trimtex for 38 ye
ars, retiring in 1985 as supervisor. He was a member of the Republica
League, Knights of Columbus and Sycamore and Tri Town Bridge clubs

e Lampasas High School Class of 1967. After attending Central Texas Co
llege in Killeen, she graduated from Tarleton State University wit
h a major in European history and a minor in American history and Engl
ish. She was recognized as the outstanding history student at Tarleton
's parents' day in 1971. She returned to Tarleton to become certifie
d in secondary education and elementary education. She taught second g
ade in the Lampasas Independent School District for 28 years. She i
s survived by her parents of Lampasas; two sisters, Mary E. (Ohnmeiss
) Atherton, and Donna D. Ohnmeiss, one brother, John T. Ohnmeiss; on
e niece, Celia Sellars, a great-niece, Cheyenne Sellars; and a great-n
ephew, Wyatt. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Charlie Renke
and Winnie Angermann Renken. Pallbearers were Mickey Edwards, Justi
Squyres, Sam Potts, Joel Wayne Sellars, Woody Atherton and G.R. Stif
flemire. Funeral services occurred on March 14 at 2 p.m. at Riley Fune
al Home Chapel. Susan died at Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lam
pasas. Her age was 54 years, 2 months, 24 days.

Warren C. Houseknecht Jr., 54, of Williamsport, died Tuesday, Oct. 15
, 2013, at his home following an extended illness.

Born March 27, 1959, in Muncy, he was a son of Warren C. and Ninabell
e (Ohmneiss) Houseknecht. He married Mary R. Danneker and celebrated 3
6 years together.

He worked as a sales representative at Susquehanna Paper for 36 years
. Warren was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish. He enjoyed hunt
ing, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family, especiall
y his grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two sons, Warren D.
, of Williamsport and SSGT Matthew A. Houseknecht, of Dover, Del.; tw
o daughters, Jennifer M. Brainard (Matthew F.) and Melanie A. Housekne
cht, both of Williamsport; four grandchildren, Madison R. Houseknecht
, Mackenzie L. Houseknecht, Issac M. Brainard and Ian M. Brainard; tw

VETERAN

Steven M. Ohnmeiss, 66, of Montoursville, passed away at his residenc
e Tuesday, May 23, 2017.

He was born in Williamsport, Oct. 30, 1950, a son of Ray and Nellie Wr
ight Ohnmeiss. He was married to the former Penny Wood April 26, 1980
. Steve joined the U.S. Marine Corps and continued on to Officer candi
date school. He proudly served his country for 20 years in the U.S. Na
vy submarine service as a supply officer. He attained the rank of Lt
. Commander. He was assigned to the USS Tulibee and USS Greenling wit
h a tour of Iceland where he and his wife enjoyed the culture and natu
e of the country. Upon retiring from the Navy, he returned to Montour
sville and became a case worker for the Department of Public Assistanc
e.

He actively attended Calvary Baptist Church where he was an usher an
d taught Vacation Bible School. He loved being Poppa. He loved his fam
ily and friends. He may not have been an outgoing social butterfly, bu
t he was someone you could count on. He was an avid reader, master o
f useful trivia and facts, Sudoku puzzle player and an in-home jeopard
y genius. Over the years he gladly donated his time to his church, th
e James V. Brown Library and Volunteers of America.

Steve’s survivors include his wife, Penny; one daughter, Melissa J. Cu
mberland (Keith), of North Ridgeville, Ohio; one granddaughter, Jole
e M. Cumberland and his two granddogs, Atticus and Cooper; one sister
, Sherry Pfirman, of South Williamsport; and many nieces, nephews, aun
ts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Terry; an
d a sister, Sandra.

Steve’s Life Celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 201
7, at the Maneval Allen Redmond Funeral Home, 500 W. Fourth St., Willi
amsport, with Rev. Peter C. Wilson officiating. Friends may call at th
e funeral home Friday from 6-8 p.m. and again Saturday from 10-11 a.m
. Interment will be in the Montoursville Cemetery.

He was the son of Maynard Lee Ohnmeiss and Ruby Jean George. Kent wa
s a graduate of Montourville High School, Class of 1972. On November 3
0, 1992, he retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. He wa
s a veteran of the the Vietnam War and Persian Gulf War. Formerly of P
ascagoula and Biloxi, Mississippi, he died early Sunday morning at hi
s home in Montoursville. While in the Air Force, he was awarded the Hu
manitarian Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Nationa
l Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the Air Forc
e Overseas Service Long Tour Ribbon. He was a member of the Methodis
t faith. He was a member of the Gesang Verein Harmonia Club of William
sport. He was a member of American Legion Post 160 at Pascagoula, Miss
issippi. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 332 a
t D'Iberville, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his father, Ma
ynard Lee Ohnmeiss (1995) and his wife, the former Eleanor "Bernie" Ph
illips Ohnmeiss (2002). Surviving are his mother, Ruby Ohnmeiss; his b
other Keith Ohnmeiss, three step-sons all of Biloxi, Mississippi; an
d his two nephews.

Kent Ohnmeiss left us at the age of: 51 years, 3 months, 2 days. Caus
e of death: Cancer.
